One of the best ever black n white films of the old school of boys own adventure ever made. If you get bored by the racing/ tennis/ watching the rain or paint dry, you could do a lot worse than watching this now!

Tyrone Power was the best Zorro. Seen that film at least 20 times. Oldies but goodies.

Apparently the makers of this film had to pay compensation to the Carry On producers because this film bore such a resemblance to Carry On Follow That Camel. They also cut the Joan Sims, Angela Douglas and Anita Harris parts out of this film.

In the original novel, the sadistic sergeant is a Belgian called Lejaune. Why the film makers changed him to a Russian called Markov is a mystery to me.
There are two additional novels in the series which fill in some of the gaps and expand on the adventures of John Geste, de Beaujolais (who commanded the Senegalese cavalry) and the two Americans.
All three novels are worth reading especially if you enjoyed the film.

Ronald Colman and Ginger Rogers was in a good film on Saturday morning bbc2.
lucky partners - lottery ticket.
they made a shyte remake with N.Cage some years ago.
was laughing at the faces Colman was making when he was asked to go
out to the back lane for a fight with Jack Carson.
He seems to like doing gambling films - The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo
was good too.

"Royal Flash" by George MacDonald Fraser is loosely based on the Prisoner of Zenda plot.
I think it was made into a film too. It's the second adventure in the "Flashman" series of novels.

that was a weirdish film - royal flash, Malcolm McDowell always borderline crazy.
you had Ollie Reed as Bismarck.

Bismarck was some guy. first NHS 1884 - " Mandatory health insurance originally applied only to low-income workers and certain government employees, but has gradually expanded to cover the great majority of the population"
you need health soldiers!! so you keep the civilians healthy. Bismarck was some guy.

I haven't seen the film but enjoyed the novel. Have you read the Flashman novels, Zorro?
The McAuslan novels by the same author about life in a Scottish regiment are humorous and brilliantly written.

Nope - i'm not a big reader of fiction, more a reader of manuals.

photoshop, drawing guides etc. pc stuff. learned a lot of applications. For DTP.
Was going to take a computer science course twenty years ago - dodged that, but read
the course work. helps me repair my old pc. 12 years old. one day it'll inherit everything.

I used to read HG Wells and Robert E.Howard books, most of them.
Last book of fiction I read was about six months ago -
How Much Land Does a Man Need? Short story by Leo Tolstoy.
only after I was asked to read it by a family member.
very easy and quick to read.
I like chasing up old movies, quicker input. seen everything. from Clara Bow to Vin Diesel.
modern movies are terrible - dreadful. entertaining flashing lights.

my fav HG Wells story was - the pearl of Love.(spoiler alert - plot)
