At least 101 people were shot in Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend, according to a city newspaper.
Nearly half of the shootings during the four-day holiday happened over 12 hours, reports the Chicago Tribune.
The youngest victim was a 13-year-old boy and the oldest a 60-year-old man.
Not even the deployment of more than 1,000 extra officers by Chicago police department could staunch the violence.
The casualties are significantly higher than 2016, when 66 people were shot in Chicago over the Independence Day weekend, which lasted three days.
It brings the total number of people shot in Chicago so far in 2017 to more than 1,800, reports the Tribune.
But that figure is not as severe as last year when 2,035 people had been shot by this point.

It was following a yes vote in the referendum to stay an English colony. Chicago has had a reputation since the Roaring 20s. I know a few Chicagoans and they are very touchy about the history of violence. I think we should follow their example. Have a big party in Tower Hamlets and Newham after supplying the inhabitants with weapons of self destruction. The cull will certainly keep the population down. Be great if Jezza, Mr Marxist and The Fumbling Abbot could attend too!

One can only applaud our Mayor's initiative. I am sure you will all join me in backing this anti homophobic and RAY CYST programme. At last we will see the number of knife attacks and gun crimes drop as Trident is brought to prominence. Hopefully he will deal with the misogyny/sexism and homophobia endemic in his own culture. I look forward to great progress. Us in the LGBT community are under a lot of pressure. Half of Landan's LGBT venues have closed!!(evening standard) Our march on the 8th will be under heavy protection. Apparently there are people who do not like us. Who on earth would attack nice friendly gay/bi/trans people Anyone know. Why is the mayor and police so concerned about this??  |

For anyone who doesn`t know, a `sanctuary city` is a city where someone in authority, (typically the Mayor, but ALWAYS a leftie), will declare they don`t like certain laws, therefore they will not abide by or enforce those laws. Yes, that`s right; be a mass-murdering illegal alien who`s been deported numerous times already, and all you have to do is make your way to one of these sanctuaries, and the authorities will positively hinder any attempts by Federal authorities , eg ICE, to arrest and deport you. Recent cases include a Judge sneaking a criminal out the back door of the Courthouse, knowing ICE were at the front door waiting to arrest the alien, and `Kate`s Law`, which was recently passed in an attempt to stop alien criminals like the one who had been deported FIVE times before returning and murdering Kate Steinlie, whilst under sanctuary city protection. Scandalous, you couldn`t make it up, yet it`s par for the course for our leftie friends. |
