Bit of  Dragon's Den question please...

The idea is an optic that doesn't drip, so saves wastage on high end spirits.

Is there that much wastage from the current products ? From looking, they need to be government stamped (but I assume that means what goes in the glass)
I'm also thinking that in high-end bars, people want a bar tender who can pour out rather than am optic ?
If there's so many single shots in a bottle, would a significant amount be lost through drips ?
I'm guessing good stock taking takes care of most of it.
Tar :-)

Modern optic measures shouldn't drip at all. The single main reason an optic drips is a faulty cork( or rubber stopper) fitting badly into the bottle. The drip you may see following a pour is from the measure the customer has paid for and if the optic is functioning properly wastage is negligible. One reason you don't see many high end spirits 'on optic' is small sales as the main purpose of the system is to speed service and for most outlets high end spirits are slow moving products. Eye level is buy level so you will probably see the biggest selling products arranged at each serving point thereby speeding service. Once in a glass a blended whiskey, for example, looks very similar to a 20 year old single malt so the display of the single malt bottle and the pour(using a measure) in front of the customer lets him, and everyone around, know that extra care is being taken to deliver a premium product and not just a run of the mill scotch. Hope this answers your question.

I worked in a few pubs when at UNI (absolute years ago)
There was a drip tray under the optics.
Anything in it at the end of the night went into the rum bottle.
