There's not much difference between the original and Bieber version ... about a third of the song has Bieber vocal over it, the rest of the song is the same...that said the original is a lot better...the intro especially adds a lot compared to Bieber.

Will be the most viewed video on youtube ever by the end of the summer.

Most streamed song of all time now too 4.6 billion. Monster song!

Can someone please tell me what I am missing, this is a completly bang average tune, I don't get it

It all stems from a genre called Reggaeton where Daddy Yankee works his stuff. Mixture of Caribbean and latin/spanish music. The genre is huge in latin countries, the top tunes often get over a billion on youtube. Reggaeton can be quite aggressive though and is too an acquired taste , see Gasolina , a previous top 5 hit for DY. Now take the generic Reggaeton beat add some melodic latin pop and you have a hit. People mention Bieber but the song was already silly big before he got involved. What makes it even more astonishing is the speed the song has spread and broke the records. Just over 6 months after its release is very quick to post such numbers. I think people browsing the global charts on Spotify is what has done it. Before it was number 1 the US and UK around April I was browsing the country charts and it was number 1 everywhere i looked...places like Germany?!

Oh she is hot as Love just back from Spain get the feeling they are sick of Despactio surprisingly didn't hear it that much..plenty of SUBEME LA RADIO! by Enrique though.

Interestingly Despacito lost it's UK number 1 chart status last week due to the silly new charts rules meaning 300:1 streams per sales for songs over 10 weeks old and 3 consecutive weeks of slow down.

The Rihanna tune that went number 1 was still on a ratio of 150:1 streams per sale, even then only just made it.

Despacito was the most stream track by a distance....looks like this week even with the handicap they've introduced to speed up the chart it may well go back to for its third stint at number 1 and 10 non-consecutive week Shocked

Best pop song that I've heard in possibly 30 years. The chorus is particularly good. A great tune and I love Latin rhythms. In fact I play quite a few Latin rhythms in the various jazz outfits that I play with.

Played this one about 50 times since I first discovered it only about 3 weeks ago. I know it's been out since January, but I've been on the planet ZOB for 6 months and the radio reception from Earth hasn't been that great!

Well, it looks like that your view is very much in the minority - looking at the listening/viewing figures. But it's all very subjective - what turns one person on (musically speaking) leaves other people absolutely cold. I mean huge crowds all over the world rave over Ed Shearan's music, but for me, it does absolutely nothing. Very clever stuff, but doesn't turn me on musically. Also I love some operas, but that's very much a minority music, as is jazz these days but I love listening and playing it.

I did an outdoor gig some years ago at a village fair. It was a great band with a great sound and we had about 30 or 40 people in front of us listening. After our spot, there was a dog display and suddenly about a thousand people rushed over to the arena to watch the dogs performing.

So, there you go, that's life!

Some  people are easily pleased, the reason these videos has billions of views in such a short period of time is because the music companies have software refreshing the videos thousands of times a day, the views are artificially inflated and mean nothing, just like being at number 1 for so long, the more copies record companies buy of their own artist song the more promotion and airplay they will get and the more chances of selling more tour dates out, and that's where the real money is made, and remember these days you can be at number 1 selling very few copies. 20 years ago it wouldn't have made the top 20. Also a bit of a novelty record because it's sung in Spanish.

Well, I'm certainly not easily pleased. In fact exactly the opposite, I'm very choosey when it comes to music. 99.9% of the stuff that's churned out these days does nothing for me, whereas my personal favourite decade for popular music was the 70's, 1974 particularly. Most of my vinyl albums are from that year.

I like some of the prog rock stuff from that era and I very often go back and listen to the old stuff from around that period (Tull, Yes, The Little River Band plus many more - Pink Floyd being my all time favourite music, but not the early Floyd, only from Gilmore onwards.)

Yes, it was released in 1973. As far as the 'Pulse' concerts that you maybe referring to, they were late 1980's and early 1990's. The Earls Court concert as you say was spectacular and inspirational. The live version of 'Comfortably Numb' was particularly moving and as far as I'm concerned it's still to this day the greatest rock ballad ever written. Congratulations to Despacito...most stream of all time and most viewed song of all time....it's still racing up the views too...still number 1 here and US...amazing it'll take a good while before a song comes along to beat it's numbers.

3 Spanish language tracks in the 40 this week....J Balvin "Mi Gente"highest new entry at 21...this is in 100% Spanish and has had no crossover makeover either. Surprised this is doing well.

68 million views away from 4 billion views. Now that's big stuff.Strange thing is that nobody can understand why the song is so popular.
But it has become the most famous song ever recorded in the history of music since records began.it is now also the most famous known man made object or item in the world.
And even stranger still Donald trump and kim jung what ever you call him from north korea both gone on record as saying the song is fantastic.(he he ,how about that")Shocked

Now is your chance to be part of history in the making by listening to this song and who knows you just might be that person to download the 4 billionent  play and be super famous.
