Seems everybody's dying but someone in an old, obscure advert etc gets a mention nowadays. What about all the superb celebrities our parents and grandparents used to know?

I've read the opening post 4 times now and I still can't make head nor tail of it so I'll plump for a wild guess of an answer and say.......potatoes.

i was saying this the other Day.. who remembers Lily Langtry ? she used to be huge?

a lot of people don't even know who Jimmy Cagney was?
the latest guy comes along and bumps yesterdays star down and off the greasy pole.
fame is fleeting.

I don't know, I haven't been on here for a couple of years, assuming the Grim Reaper would have given this place a much needed spring clean but it turns out the lazy fecker's given this place a complete swerve. Maybe another couple of years...

He knew who she was though, scandal with the king.
She was not a great looker, I googled her.

Googled Lilly Langtry ! Is there nothing on the internet you won't knock one out too zorro Shocked

More people die than want to die , what is the point of that ?
I don't know.

It's natural that one should crumble a bit with the passage of time,
But that doesn't matter.

Wasn't there a national day of mourning (for the young) when Jade Goody passed away?

Scandanavian, just saying its only modern technology giving air-time current deaths, most I've never heard of. People who died years ago were just as famous and important but it wasn't really headline news?
Report woodmanchester June 29, 2017 4:04 PM BST
For some reason they want us to think more people are dying than yesteryear, but that's not the case
Report Slicer June 29, 2017 4:11 PM BST
You are incorrect. As the population is much greater than yesteryear, more people die per day than yesteryear, just as there are more births per day than yesteryear.
Report woodmanchester June 29, 2017 4:17 PM BST
Pro-rata. Most of these deaths can hardly be classed a very famous people?
Report woodmanchester June 29, 2017 4:21 PM BST
...and, contrary to the news, people have a greater longevity these days
Report boxingthefox June 29, 2017 4:22 PM BST
Sadly we are bombarded with sensationalised 'news', if some bloke in Sichuan province China kills his wife for burning the toast we're told about! years ago this simply didn't happen. 24/7/365 news FFS. Cry
Report Slicer June 29, 2017 4:23 PM BST
Ah I see. I misunderstood, But I maintain that the modern definition of famous, ie so called celebs from reality progs, means that there are more so called famous people in existence. This means that my initial statement is correct. The greater the number of "famous" people, the greater the number that die on a daily basis!
Report boxingthefox June 29, 2017 4:30 PM BST
The good Dr Slicer, is the most famous person on here. Love

The level of sycophancy goes through the roof when I post. Laugh
Report woodmanchester June 29, 2017 4:33 PM BST
Yes Slicer, tv is flooded. I remember just 3 channels before even Channel 4 came into existence. TV off air about midnight!
Report lfc1971 June 29, 2017 4:33 PM BST
there are no famous British people.
Report woodmanchester June 29, 2017 4:37 PM BST
Andy Murray?
Report lfc1971 June 29, 2017 4:39 PM BST
no, to be famous you have to do something new, different, be different, like Elvis
Report lfc1971 June 29, 2017 4:41 PM BST
to be known, is not to be famous. we know the Queen, but she is not famous.
but she may be immortal . so doesn`t count
Report Slicer June 29, 2017 4:46 PM BST
So kind as always Mr btf! I remember the days when there were only 3 channels: BBC, ITV and the English!I also remember the Light prog and the Home service on the Radio! The other thread about anagrams of posters names might apply to me: R E L I C S! Tiffin time. Hasta Banana!
Report lfc1971 June 29, 2017 4:47 PM BST
Elvis is famous because he helped to start a new art form, something that never existed before.

Little Richard once said, "The blues had an illegitimate baby and we named it rock 'n' roll."

Interesting article from the New York Sun..

Elvis, white trash, woulda been a sissy without Johnny cash. U2

Was a big Elvis fan up to ten when he died.
He was pretty mad for his time. But seemed to have a good heart.
Like Muhammid Ali, his own worst enemy.
Definite death wish in play throughout our lives.
Report ufcdan June 30, 2017 9:12 AM BST
When Elvis died we thought it would be funny to take the p1ss out of the Teddy boys at a church near us where a memorial service was being held for Elvis. There was about twenty of us all in our late teens, glad I wore my trainers as about 100 Teddy boys (men) came storming out Scared
