Her first record was, Jambalaya (On The Bayou)(1956)!
youtu.be/sYDbItgL6Ms The very first recording made by "Little" Brenda Lee was a cover of the Hank Williams hit "Jambalaya". The billing on the label states: "Little Brenda Lee - 9 Years Old". Well, Decca was being a bit economical with the truth, since Brenda was in fact 11 years old at the time of this first recording session - July 30, 1956 in Nashville TN. Decca producers Paul Cohen and Owen Bradley were involved in this session. A few years later, long-time producer Bradley recalled his first impressions of Brenda during those sessions: "She was so small. She's always seemed very small to me. But the thing that got me was how unconcerned she was to be such a small kid. She kept curling one finger around and around on the top of her head, and she was not the least bit excited and for that matter, never has been. I remember when we started rolling on the first take, all of a sudden she yelled "Stop, stop - he missed a note", and she pointed straight at the bass player. The bass player (Bob Moore) said he had. Nobody else had caught it." The promise of the superb entertainer known as Brenda Lee is all there to hear in this first session. Heck, even then - what other 11 year old could entertain as professionally as Brenda? Released on September 17, 1956 on 78 and 45 rpm. Produced by Paul Cohen and Owen Bradley. |

She was 4 ft 9 inches. Favorite record of Brenda Lee, Speak To Me Pretty. Some clips of her on YouTube when she was just a kid, she was so scary good. |

Apart from her talent what I liked about her is her humility, down to earth attitude, lovely family, and still married to her first love. Not many in show business are like that.
