The news was explaining HMS queen Elizabeth, the new Carrier, will be leaving the
construction site and head through a gap with 14 inches either side clearance to
get out to sea. Then there is a bridge with the same clearance again?

The initial part is normal but with only 6 feet to spare at one of the bridges that will we worth watching.
Hopefully all will be well and our bridges remain intact, we're rather proud of them.  |

I hope they know what they are doing. 50cm clearance- errrr!!! I am assuming they think the thing won't pitch.
Weather - wind/leeway - something that high can drift like a barge. I guess the number of tugs MIGHT hold it. |

Some of the big liners can get under the Rail Bridge 46m but cant clear the road bridge 44m ,cant see a height for the Queensferry Crossing.The tugs have GPS control systems and are all connected via a control system so it is an exact science
suppose the salinity/density of the water is not a constant,surprised they are going under the Bridges tonight and not tommo morning as tues low tide much more favourable ,cant be that tight or maybe traffic issues are a concern and they dont want all the traffic stopping on the old shakey! |

i hope the engines work better than the other boats they built recently?
they had to go back to port to add more engines. |

Gutted I wasn't working down there today ... I'd have hung around after to witness it. Good question by bnb on the height of the new crossing - I'll ask next time I'm on site.

think what looks like a gun is in fact the mast folded ,one big ship and looks awesome sliding under the bridges and away into the night . BBC used a Photoshopped image ,looked like it was doing the impossible and going under the bridges sideways Queensferry Crossing has 45m clearance . so the old forth road bridge was the tightest obstacle . Went through pretty quickly ,was not that tight and YT link has a nice size comparison with the train going over the iconic bridge in front of HMS Queen Elizabeth. |
