Whilst playing a few holes of golf at The Royal Calcutta Club the players would employ locals and heavily smear their faces with jam.
These fellows would follow the players round and would attract all the unwanted flying insects. This would leave the players
irritant free as they enjoyed their round.

Mr Cooperman- no memsahib. Haven't had the pleasure of the 3 rings of marriage: The engagement ring, the wedding ring and the suffer ring!

This seems like an appropriate moment for me to remind Young Slicer (as The Tubes once said) "I was a punkah before you were a punkah".

Alun- Is that the Tubes who once said "Mind the Gap" or the Tubes that once said "Don't touch me there"?

You really got me there YS, as The Kinks nearly said.

Alun- if you haven't heard the Tubes "Don't touch me there" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTd3PrTzSPY I got the 12 inch version (of the vinyl that is, so I'm not boasting!)

It had a great success rate in my younger days, if you know what I mean!

It Ain't Half Hot Mum.

Are they allowed to show that these days?

It was shocking the way Battery Sergeant Major "Shut Up" Williams used to speak to Lofty.
Creates a bad image for the army that.

Glad you enjoyed your tiffin bft. I find that one has to have it when one is in the mood for it to enjoy it to the maximum extent. Rather like something else, the name of which, for the moment, I have forgotten.

Aint half hot Mum reminded me of the days when if an uppity alien type person as much as blew his nose in the wrong way in Good Old Blighty, the Government sent a gunboat up the local river and gave Johnny Foreigner a good old thrashing. But we stopped doing that, and we can all see the result!

Can't hear the word "tiffin" without thinking about what Sid James meant by it in "carry on up the khyber".

I found that film a bit close to the bone after my own time in the Foot and Mouth.

Can't hear the word Tiffin without thinking about the confectionery vendor at the Midlands tracks in the 90s who used to sell big bars of it, alongside bars of Old Jamaica too. No better way to celebrate landing a touch.
