only just found these great quotes, “As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. . . . We need not wait to see what others do.”
“First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. And then they attack you and want to burn you. And then they build monuments to you.” Gandhi. |

American Gods is poor - one episode to go in the season? 8 episodes? and it's going nowhere.
I need to get a blanket, I'm so used to duvets, I think they end up cooking you. Probably makes your bones weaker. I feel like a chicken in the oven. I don't like summer unless i'm at a beach. A nice breeze can save the day. |

Getting rid of loft insulation solves the problem. That way the heat rises into the attic, as it's supposed to, in order to dry out any damp from the winter.
If you can't do that, at least leave the loft hatch open. |

Saw some jogger (I presume, she was stopped chatting on her phone but in jogging gear and where joggers run) with an overheating dog today, I was very close to asking her why take a chubby looking dog out in this heat without any sign of a bottle of water and a bowl
![]() What was certainly the case was the dog's tongue was out like Gene Simmons and it was panting like h3ll. Dogs can't take their coat off when it's hot. ![]() ![]() |

Yes we have a laminated area and she likes to sleep there with her back pressed into the radiator.
Radiators obviously switched of for the summer and the steel cold to the touch. Always plenty of water for her. Like most dogs she tends to repeat behaviour so expecting and early morning call again. ![]() |

All sorts of reasons I'd never want to live in London or the SE in general again, but the urban heat island effect of all that tarmac and concrete in summer is definitely a major one.
Plus the fact that the walls of houses in towns are nearly all modern and flimsy. They just don't have the thermal mass to store heat and keep the building cool in these conditions. The brickwork in houses like this one down in Somerset might look a right mess of rubble and lime, but at least there's 2 feet of it, and it doesn't reach full capacity until the autumn, so it only releases its heat into the rooms at the time of year when you actually want it to. |

You find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford. ~ Samuel Johnson

Water beds - they tend to bang on about the 'popular' reason for getting one, but the important thing is they are pleasantly warm in winter and pleasingly, wonderfully cool in summer. It takes a lot of time/heat to warm up a king-size wb in summer. In winter you use the under-mattress heater. And, with under-mattress draws, your unmentionables are toasty in winter.
When I move on I'm going to get me another. Best to put them on the ground floor or the weight might relocate you to the ground floor unexpectedly. So long as you have a tough liner, a bicycle inner-tube repair-kit, and use enough algicide they're easy-peasy. |

Nice and cool in Norwich tonight, only been low 20's today, I like the heat but today has been a relief.

zorro - I disagree. American Gods is very good. Visually excellent, wonderful performances, intellectually challenging about the nature of modern US gods (I can't wait for the goddess of pornography to appear) - what it isn't is engaging in that you care about the characters. I like that - wonder in face of the fireworks and walk away. And of course, no one in our world cares about gods or which one(s) you worship?
