Many will see it as a tremendous result for them to defy all expectation last night and thwart a majority by the hated Tories, but they are still 60 something short of winning and have now lost 3 elections in a row.

Was last night as good a result as it is possible under Corbyn and McDonnell's far left leadership? Will Britain ever elect a far left government? I'm an old git and I can't recall one. Wilson? Was he far left, I can't really remember?

After the excitement dies down Labour are still in opposition still about 60 seats behind.  Because of the low expectancy this initially seems like a great result but it only will be if they can build on it.  There is a long way to go before we can see a Corbyn led Labour govt.  I suspect we have reached peak Corby.

Well, they got fairly close with a couple of rag-bag lefties at the helm, Diane Abbot and la la land promises.

Give another 5 years worth of youngsters the vote and anything is possible.

"Give another 5 years worth of youngsters the vote and anything is possible!   Spot on, and it might not even be 5 years.

I am laughing at those nasty backstabbers in the PLP who said corby was unelectable.  He did better than anyone else since blair.  The self serving self interested suits in the party were only concerned about keeping their expenses fuelled careers and just wanted rid of corbyn (who has socialist ideas - they don't)
Just look at the creeps. Starmer, Kinnock junior(chief back stabber), Cooper, chemical smith, Chukka, etc etc etc
They have been very quiet.  They should be crawling on their knees and thank corbyn for keeping their money grabbing careers.
I believe corbyns performances on the stump had something to do with as well as the tory lot upsetting the pensioners!!!

Moisok, spot on re the pensioners, she underestimated them as did the Irish Government awhile back only to suffer the same consequences, don't mess with them or you're in big trouble.

louis - we have tried the con man and  liar blair style - no passion at all - all fkn careerists - the whole lot bar a few.
Until we get rid of the suits we will continue to have problems of electability. Many of them could sit with the Liberals and some sit on the left of the tory party.  They are all about managing capitalism instead of challenging it and changing it.

5 more years of student fees

5 more years of health service cuts

5 more years of underfunding schools

at least i hope now the young kids will get fed at school, and the pensioners will keep their winter fuel allowance without having 60 pages of forms to fill in

if nothing else good comes out of this disaster of an election then sobeit

I think it is hilarious.  WHERE ARE THEY? Their expenses fuelled careers are safe for the moment. Until we get round to re/de selection.  That was all they were concerned about.  Would corbyn destroy them by being ....wait for it.....

                    UNELECTABLE

anyone remember the cry that went up from chemical smith cooper kinnock(a real back stabber who was parachuted into a safe seat and mp for about 5 secs weighed in straight away)  starmer the same - mp for a minute and starts!!!!  I am sick of them they could sit on the left of the tory party at worst and at best, with the Liberals!!

The high % for both Labour and Cons is more due to the collapse of UKIP and the lack of any revival from the Lib Dems. It says more about the rest of them rather than how great Corby is.

If the traitorous PLP hadn't done so much damage to our party's reputation by challenging a legally elected leader just think where we may have got with their full backing.  Instead they stabbed him in the back in fear of their own careers. I look forward to the day they are removed.

To answer King Louis question. For an instance of a far left government in an advanced Capitalist state you need look no further than France under President Mitterrand, Delors and Trichet in the 1990s. They would have been in deep trouble were it not for "sweetheart" deals with Helmut Kohl and the Bundesbank in support of the DM led ERM in the 1990s.
