Very controversial (not to me) article written by an Irish journalist whose name escapes me.
He basically said aid to East Africa before during and after Live Aid has led to population explosion and therefore famine. Famine because Africans, especially in that region are unable to feed themselves. Corruption/backward ideas hinder progress I was shocked to see first hand the absence of water harvesting in Ethiopia. Most just don't do it but rely on NGOs. Notice the countless ads on telly asking for money for water projects. Give Africa $3BN and in 10=15 years time the problem will be even worse. Their mindset has to change. They need to embrace what the white farmer teaches them. It's that simple. Zimbabwe used to EXPORT food!!! Because of the white farmers.. To find water you dig 10 metres. Ethiopia is at altitude so you need to pick the spot carefully. Rainfall is higher and with greater intensity than we're led to believe. If they dug wells and collected every drop, the situation in Ethiopia would be eased dramatically. |

No matter what we do it never seems to get better
my idea would be for the western world to pay in the poorer countries a pension to the population provided they only had two children. It is my understanding that the children provide for the parents in later life so I suppose the thinking is the more children I have the better my lifestyle in my latter years. |

I'm playing devil's advocate here, those poor souls will die. they need 5 billion quid and it's not going to happen. The evil schmucks in charge are not going to do anything but bomb them more. Peace and construction of a pipeline will never happen. No profit in it. All they want are minerals off them and it pays to keep them poor so they accept any price they offer. Fallen World. Live aid raised 150 million over 30 years. that's 5 million a yr. they need 5000 million. they cannot wait 1000 years. |
