Why would they be doing this? I don't see any benefit for the US to p!ss off the UK govt when they are in the middle of an investigation. I can only imagine the indignation coming from the US if the boot were on the other foot. Any ideas as to why this has happened? I really am baffled why the name got leaked way before the UK govt wanted it released.

Leak or no leak, UK intel failed.

But the US does have a history of leaking things to the press.

The media knew the name quite early on and had been asked not to publish it. It was the US media who released it not US intelligence

The issue that concerned me on Monday night/Tuesday morning was that CNN and Fox had news before the BBC and Sky about the Suicide Bomber revelation , what is happening with our News services.

for hushwing:

Chris Coons, a Democratic member of the Senate foreign affairs committee, said questions were being raised about whether the Trump administration understood what it meant to treat highly classified intelligence responsibly.

He told MSNBC: “Our alliance with the people of Great Britain is one of our closest, strongest, oldest – and our prayers are with them, the families who lost loved ones in Manchester … We’ve got a very close intelligence and defence partnership with the UK and that news is troubling and it suggests that we have even more close allies who are questioning whether we can be trusted with vital intelligence.

“This is a key part of what keeps us safe, a global network of allies with whom we share intelligence and strategic and planning and defence resources … I am hearing real questions raised about whether this administration, in particular President Trump understands what it means to treat highly classified intelligence carefully and responsibly.”

they were just towing the line, they knew it. Better for them to play ball I'd say to avoid risking being lambasted or not being fed future scoops.

Only right wing news sources for you then? There's no getting away from the fact though that that the Americans could have really impeded the investigation. Relevant facts should be released when the UK govt wants and not by another country's intelligence service.

If you can't visit the Guardian website I suggest you may have a rather closed mind and fixed rigid ideas I
regularly visit The Daily Mail, Telegraph, Washington Post, New York Times, Guardian ,Independent, Mirror,
Daily Record, The Economist,F. T.,De Telegraaf, and Local Rags that way I can't be accused of having my head in the sand.

moisok he does have a point though - far too many people look either at left or right wing news. I'm not a lefty and actually find myself disagreeing with a lot of the opinion stuff they post nowadays, but people need to look outside their own comfort zone. Btw IS Trump doesn't need any help in giving out secrets!

I'm sorry, but our Government lost all claims to any higher ground, and any remaining shred of credibility it ever had, when it allowed a known danger to wander the streets looking for somewhere to inflict mass casualties.
