Was going to post his passing but felt a bit awkward doing so today almost as if I feel a bit guilty being sad at his passing after the innings and privileged life he's had in relation to that little 8 year old and others who also have died today.

That is sad. I'm not much of a Bond fan but grew up with shows like The Persuaders and The Saint. R.I.P. You had a good innings fella.

Privileged, maybe but for 26 years has travelled all over the world as a UNICEF ambassador, so feeling awkward is unneessary. |

Maverick? was going to watch this, but never got round to it. will need to dig it out.
I loved the man who haunted himself , the funniest opening sequence to a film. laughed so much i pisshed myself. Crossplot was good too. I tried to get a copy of Bullseye, with Michael Caine, it's a hammy adventure with nothing good in it except Roger and Michael. |

when you threw stuff at the guy in front of you. riots in the cinema. He parodies his Bond character perfectly in it. Brilliant send up of himself. |

Roger Moore's step daughter died last july. Christina Knudsen died aged just 47.
that must have rocked him, cancer usually has a way in after grief. |

As an seven year old in about 1983, in the days before First Class Lounges at airports, I was with my grandad in Nice Airport and saw Roger Moore sitting at the departure gate, reading a paper. I told my granddad I'd just seen James Bond and asked if we could go over so I could get his autograph. My grandad had no idea who James Bond or Roger Moore were, so we walked over and he popped me in front of Roger Moore, with the words "my grandson says you're famous. Can you sign this?" As charming as you'd expect, Roger asks my name and duly signs the back of my plane ticket, a fulsome note full of best wishes. I'm ecstatic, but as we head back to our seats, I glance down at the signature. It's hard to decipher it but it definitely doesn't say 'James Bond'. My grandad looks at it, half figures out it says 'Roger Moore' - I have absolutely no idea who that is, and my hearts sinks. I tell my grandad he's signed it wrong, that he's put someone else's name - so my grandad heads back to Roger Moore, holding the ticket which he's only just signed. I remember staying by our seats and my grandad saying "he says you've signed the wrong name. He says your name is James Bond." Roger Moore's face crinkled up with realisation and he beckoned me over. When I was by his knee, he leant over, looked from side to side, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said to me, "I have to sign my name as 'Roger Moore' because otherwise...Blofeld might find out I was here." He asked me not to tell anyone that I'd just seen James Bond, and he thanked me for keeping his secret. I went back to our seats, my nerves absolutely jangling with delight. My grandad asked me if he'd signed 'James Bond.' No, I said. I'd got it wrong. I was working with James Bond now. Many, many years later, I was working as a scriptwriter on a recording that involved UNICEF, and Roger Moore was doing a piece to camera as an ambassador. He was completely lovely and while the cameramen were setting up, I told him in passing the story of when I met him in Nice Airport. He was happy to hear it, and he had a chuckle and said "Well, I don't remember but I'm glad you got to meet James Bond." So that was lovely. And then he did something so brilliant. After the filming, he walked past me in the corridor, heading out to his car - but as he got level, he paused, looked both ways, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said, "Of course I remember our meeting in Nice. But I didn't say anything in there, because those cameramen - any one of them could be working for Blofeld." I was as delighted at 30 as I had been at 7. What a man. What a tremendous man. |

I used to deal Blackjack to Roger Moore in a London Casino in the 80's.
He was a really nice bloke with a good sense of humour and charm, would chat while he was playing. He told us a quite good joke which I remember... (In a Roger Moore voice): "What's the last sound a pubic hair hears before it hits the floor?" "(makes coughing and choking sound)" RIP Roger. |

Sir Roger Moore has sadly passed away. The long-time PETA supporter may have been best known for his suave portrayal of James Bond, but we believe his greatest achievements were his efforts on behalf of animals. He took on a number of causes, from fighting for animals abused in circuses to helping stop birds being tortured for foie gras. Sir Roger didn’t pull any punches when he talked about cruelty to animals: “‘Sport’ hunting is a sickness, a perversion and a danger and should be recognised as such. People who get their ‘amusement’ from hunting and killing defenceless animals can only be suffering from a mental disorder.” But he was a humble and generous man, too. He paid for an advertising campaign pushing British department store Selfridges to stop stocking foie gras (and the chain stopped selling it!), narrated a video about the vile product that was seen by hundreds of thousands of people, and appealed to Members of Parliament to enlist their support to ban its sale. He always stipulated that he wouldn’t attend a dinner if what he called “torture in a tin” was on the menu. And when he was out to eat, whenever he saw foie gras on offer in a restaurant, he made a point of going to the chef to discuss the issue in person – and if it stayed on the menu, he didn’t return. When Sir Roger learned that an orca named Morgan had been taken from the wild and put in a tank, he said, “It’s clear to anyone with a brain and an ounce of compassion that marine parks are nothing more than concrete prisons which cause captive marine animals a world of suffering.” The bold advocate even took on the revered Queen’s Guard, calling on the government to replace the soldiers’ bearskin hats with synthetic alternatives. Most recently, he joined PETA in fighting for tigers and lions, penning a moving article urging the Prime Minister to bring in the long-awaited ban on wild-animal circuses. |
