Is it just round here, or just because I'm considerateCool, that cars always stop for people waiting to cross as soon as they appear?
Am I remembering wrongly that those wanting to cross used to have to wait until vehicles stopped for them and that wait could be quite long?

It's not really optional - you're meant to stop unless it's dangerous to do so.

But you might be right in your observation.
