Owned by two old eccentric brothers. Beer is cheap but an acquired taste. No jukeboxes and they sacked a landlord a few years ago for topping up pints. The only place of theirs I've been in recent years is like going back 50 years. Surprised they serve single women tbh.

Apparently the swearing ban applies to staff too ..imagine a trip to the Job Centre and saying you were sacked for swearing the Job centre would say it was your own fault and you would be unable to claim any benefits .basically you would be f****d!.

Ironically the rise of swearing at work has coincided with zero tolerance for drinking. When I started work, people would spend lunchtime in the pub and come back half-cut and in some cases blotto. These days that's a sacking offence.

Swearing is great. Can be used to describe things precisely or to accentuate a joke or fill out a story.
The problem is that it is now used so frequently and to mean absolutely nothing that its power and effect is lost.
Also, it is now commonly used in inappropriate places or where old ladies or people of a nervous disposition might hear.

Swearing is simply a bad habit picked up at school, or more likely from associating with coarse types in later life.
Although hearing someone swear does help you make a rule of thumb judgement on them. The same as you can with those who wear tattoos.
So is someone approaches you swearing and displaying tattoos - run for your life!

Many long moons ago, we all gathered at a friends house, to wait until some unGodly hour, as it was rumoured that Andy Warhol would say the "F" word, whilst on the back of a motor cycle"!

What, for you, do you find the most offensive swear words?
For me, anything to do with female anatomy!
That said, there are words/expressions, that are used by many, without consideration of the origin!
Such as.....You Jerk...You suck....You sucker...etc

Swearing fortunately is finished. As the f word is commonplace and the C word also getting used more and more there isn't another word with shock capabilities. So that's it.

Swearing by pub bands amazes me as I have often seen women leave quietly and their companions usually follow..When the pub may not be busy it leaves a dead atmosphere andis counter productiveWe can all use bad language in temper but everyday gutter language is unnecessary and alienates people.

The Guardian has written an article .. it's a rather funny read. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jul/01/samuel-smith-pub-boss-anti-swearing-crusade-sacked-on-spot An elderly man in the pub, who everyone called the Vicar, said that the prohibition on “effing and jeffing” was only the tip of the iceberg of Smith’s illiberal regime. He said the pub used to be an open space until Smith segregated it into separate rooms, and, as well as swearing, standing at the bar was no longer allowed, and while ordering a drink there was a ban on using your phone, or even talking. effing and jeffin
