Virgin Media supposedly recently upgraded my  broadband speed to 150mb. Tests show I'm actually getting less than 20mb.Is this normal?

I have just run speedtest.net, i am with Virgin Media.

My results were
Down : 151.67Mbps
Up : 12.25Mbps

When i notice things lagging i reboot the Superhub and go to the Virgin Media service status page https://my.virginmedia.com/faults/service-status and run the fault finding test.

Thanks ST. I'll try that. I lost my WiFi connection last night and had to speak to some bint in India.Router just packed on with no flashing lights at all. They are sending me a new one by courier. However after I came off the phone I decided to change the power adapter for a spare one I had. That fixed it.Will ask the neighbours what speed they're getting too.

It is certainly disappointing.

If you are using wifi, try using a network cable instead: if that makes a big difference on your speed test, you will know there is something wrong with your wifi settings.

If your wifi is OK but your pc is out of the ark, test with a friend's new laptop.

Then call Virgin Media's tech support.

Thanks Ram. My android box is wired straight from the router. I'll try that when I'm out of bed. Happy.Been doing the speed test over wifi on my phone.Virgin Media site says no problem with my equipment.

Varying speed from 40mb to 110mb on the Android box.

Restarting the hub/router is always first port of call when having internet problems.

If you are speed testing over wifi then that will normally always give slower download speeds than an ethernet (wired) connection. The closer you get to the router the quicker the speed should be.

Finally, if you are using an older laptop, it might have a slow wifi card in it (some are limited to 100mb).
