my uncle used to do stuff like this in the pub. get him a pint with strangers.

my favourite of his gambits was he'd take a pack of cards and somehow force the jack of diamonds onto his new friend in the pub. he'd then get them to pick random numbers out of the air and make a local phone call that was our phone number. How he did all this? he must have read a book? or seen it done somewhere?

So at ten at night the phone would ring and you'd hear a drunk guy on the other end? (oh no, another one?) he would explain he was in a pub and could I give him a name of a playing card. you'd lay it on thick... mate it's ten oclock... what are you talking about? look i've got work in the morning. what ? a card game? pack of cards? ok.ok. jack of diamonds. then you'd hear a shriek from the other side as the guy couldn't believe you'd picked his card. the phone usually just went dead after you gave the answer.
