coast has some hidden gems, bamburgh, newton by the sea, craster and warkworth. amble is ok but wouldnt stay there. ( seahouses is popular, chip shops /amusement arcades, not my cup of tea . wouldnt go too much south of amble , druridge bay is great beach though, and some great bird watching there too. lindisfarne ( holy island ) well worth a stay too, remember its a tidal island though so check tide times.
towards roman wall , corbridge is really nice imo, one of my fav places, nice pubs and restaurants. hexham isnt that nice btw.

A cheap few days away try a hotel in Scarborough then explore Whitby, Filey, Robins Hoods Bay or other small coastal towns if you have a few quid to spare stop in Whitby.

Thought I'd better not mention it, Chaser. lol

Donny Osmond has named a cracker Northumberlandia is an outdoor sculpture near Cramlington - it looks like a lady lying on her back. Go on a weekday. It'll be obvious why when you get there.

I've never been to Hexham races before. I believe it's a lovely track and have got mates in Newcastle and Gateshead that go often so it's definitely on my list next time I'm in the North East.
