Barring classical music, it has to be at least as good as it's ever been. Some of the stuff being produced is brilliant. You might hear a track and think it sounds Beatle-esque, but it's actually sometimes better than The Beatles....just catching up on groups like Tame Impala, MGMT, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, etc.

MELODY'S ECHO CHAMBER - CROSS MY HEART

EXHIBIT A......FOOKIN' 60S VIBE, then some sort of scat samba ****, heavy drums, whistles and flutes, violin and double bass, handclaps, twangy guitars, Morricone-like ending...

The good ones seep in regardless. The older you get the less modern music matters. I recall reading age 36-37 was when most become unreceptive to new music? I went over the top 100 charts of the past 60 years a while ago to check out what I'd missed. Vast quantities of black American stuff - most of which must have been selected because it pissed off parents/the establishment. I speak of the 1990s onward. I'm often delighted by new stuff but it's accidental - I never listen to popular music radio - too much else. In our (OK my) day there was so little choice. I've had some great recommendations on here - though the recommendees were all banned subsequently.

Puer, oh puer, oh puer!

I think you must be young and you must be on drugs Velasquez ( no offence intended ).

In my vehicle to work we plug an audio jack cable into a mobile and pull up youtube. I think the latest music we have ever played was Oasis cica 1996.

I think modern music is not very good and I feel sorry for the youngsters when a pint of Beer in a Notting Hill pub is £5.50

No wonder youngsters are taking to drugs. I can't blame them and their future is to wipe my generations' arse's. Life is not fair!

Vel the Beatles (not my cup of meat) changed modern music forever, firstly with double tracking, now ADT, which no artist can live without, and also one of many 'inventions' like Lennon's (accidental) discovery of using re-verb on an A chord, Whole song structures progressed from there, away from the usual verse, chorus, verse, middle eight, chorus etc, too many examples to mention here . They deserve their place in musical history. Imho

Best - it does what it says on the label.

Since I don't listen to radio/video channels any more (NO TIME, NO TIME), I find most great recent music on TV/satellite soundtracks.  The metropolitan media elite can't help showing their avant-garde taste. So Nostalgia (Emily Barker), Bosch theme (Caught A Ghost), Look On Down From The Bridge (Mazzy Star) etc ...

Listened to Abbey Road again recently.  Some disturbingly flat spots. But it should be defined by what came before and what came after.

I thank whatever gods may be

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

I am the master of my fate,
