Under WTO rules, they are not allowed to impose punitive tariffs, so that is out of the window.

Come to think of it; i'm sure i read somewhere that the UK could have walked without Article 50 coming into force. Am i going mad or is this true..

Yeah, we could have repealed the European Communities Act 1972 and that would have been that.

...... I think the general feeling among the European public is similar - "will the UK just p1ss off and stop annoying and boring everyone"..

For example, someone tell that shrill that the EU political bodies or public at large couldn't care less about the UK general election never mind try and influence it. Losing her marbles......

I think there is a big reason why Mrs May doesn't want to tell the EU to... Remember tha americans were openly against Brexit. She has a tough task to avoid brexit. The people dont like to accept it but the americans have a big hold on the UK govt and I dont think they will let brexit happen that easily. Even if we assume Britain is a sovereign nation, and is not influenced by the americans at all, we cannot deny the same about the rest of Europe, especially Germany. We are what we are thanks to american intervention and if americans cant make Britain avoid brexit, they surely will make Germany make Brexit as hard as possible.

As for the general feeling among the European public, I dont think anyone gives a damn. Europe, at least minus UK, has seen how it has been used to clean american mess in the middle east. To expect something from the same politicians who let that happen is insanity. So really I dont think the people really worry about Brexit here. Probably some eastern European states who've greatly benefitted from ability to work in UK will have an opinion, but at least for countries like France and Germany, who will make the decisions, I dont think the people give a damn.

At least with Brexit we will be out of the ill fated European army that would be controlled from Brussels but effectively mean British and a few french forces. They can provoke Vlad as much as they like over Ukraine, etc after we have left.
