Wouldn't allow his chauffeur to turn left, such was his hatred and fear of all things communist.
He was also reckoned to have been a bit mad.

I think he wasn't alone in his weirdness.
The mass fear and use of the words "Left" and "Leftie" all over this forum on so many threads, whatever the subject, whatever the context, no matter who has said what, shows Hoover's spirit lives on.

Assuming some of you have a driving licence and a car........... be careful.

I reckon that's a trend on here that's more likely than the car thing!

they made a tv movie about him in the seventies, broderick crawford. Along with song and dance man Dan Dailey as his bestest friend? 1977. worth a watch.

I don't like leftists, and I've thought of myself as a girl on several occasions,
because I like to do household tasks, and sometimes I mend my own clothes with my own hands.
But of course I'm not a real girl.

No lfc, but you're probably close enough to count.

I don't like leftists , and the thought of being a girl has never, not for a moment, troubled me.

Hoover did not like communists, quite right !
so anything else can be forgiven .

So who's spirit lives on in anxious and his friends who show the same fear/dislike of all things right?

I think it's best to draw a firm line and not think of Corbyn wearing a dress.

Hoover could get away with that sort of behaviour because he was a patriot .

That sort of scandal is not survivable in England.

Good question akabula. I can't think of any equivalent nutters.

No, lfc, he got away with it because he was in charge and those subservient were frightened.

Given that Hoover was a cross-dresser before it became virtually compulsory, why isn't he being venerated these days by the proud LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ (spelling probably incorrect, insert your preferred bad hand at Scrabble here) Community?

Surely there's an opportunity here for Hoover to receive some posthumous 'honour' as a Pioneer, or even a State Apology for not being recognised properly in his lifetime.

Bearing in mind the BBC spends good licence payers money to bring us excruciatingly contrived, buttock-clenchingly meaningless drivel like this non-story below, surely J Edgar Hoover is ripe for a timely liberal reappraisal in the 'Newsnight' studio?

The BLTHGVers were suggesting they should have "their own" nursing homes and healthcare workers as they age, on radio 5 the other day alun. So much for being inclusive. R5 is becoming a dumbed down R4, BBC is finnish.

Indeed Saddo. Also, the usual BBC procedure is not to challenge ANY of the nonsense regularly advanced by the Bad Hand At Scrabble Community.

They had 3 or 4 acronymic contributors plus the fawning presenter, no one at all to question them.
