18 months is very harsh in my book. 6 would have been  more appropriate.

Shocking punishment and meted out by nonentities.
A months ban and a large fine would have been more appropriate.

Barton served 77 days of this prison term, being released on 28 July 2008. On 1 July 2008, he was also given a four-month suspended sentence after admitting assault occasioning actual bodily harm on former teammate

Yeah I really want this successful player in my team. FFS Guys, cop yourself on.

Barton has been charged with violent conduct three times by The Football Association: for the assault on Dabo, for punching Morten Gamst Pedersen in the stomach and for attacking three players on the final day of the 2011–12 season.......................................NICE

Still if it brings the team  glory...............That's justification enough.

Not disagreeing with any comments on him as a person but when you think of previous punishments dealt out then this seems excessive.

He's probably a lot less of a villain than some who get lauded, Boxy. I just wanted him for my team as he was what we needed and really wanted to return to us. So all in all i would rather have a twot who wants to play for us than a twot (we have plenty) who doesn't.
