At least one police officer has been killed and another is seriously injured after a shooting on Champs-Élysées in Paris, officials and witnesses say. The suspected shooter has also been killed but details remain limited.

2 policemen shot, according to BBC Radio

It is unclear if the incident is linked to terrorism. A major police operation is underway in the area, French police said.

I don't think you appreciate how many of "them" there are.  You simply can't monitor them all 24/7.  The resources just aren't there.

So, to summarise, the suspect is :

1. An Islamist sympathiser

2. A man well known to the security services

3. A man previously imprisoned for 15 years for the attempted murder of police officers.

4. Interviewed as recently as February about reported threats to police offers, but released 

5. Allowed to swan around France as he pleased.

What could possibly go wrong?

What does an Islamist sympathiser with a profile like this have to do in order to be detained for the security of the public?

The worrying thing is Alun, there are many more of them with a similar profile.
