The Sun likely see it as a chance to make amends ,sack him , get back into Anfield , avoid getting banned from Everton
A bit lame as the column was a couple of days ago and only now decide to suspend him , after The Guardian etc kick up a fuss ?
Either don't print it or stand by it imo

He made a few observations on an Everton footballer which suggested he didn't have a very high IQ and that most people on the thicko's salary are drug dealers.

“Perhaps unfairly, I have always judged Ross Barkley as one of our dimmest footballers. There is something about the lack of reflection in his eyes which makes me certain not only are the lights not on, there is definitely nobody at home.
“I get a similar feeling when seeing a gorilla at the zoo. The physique is magnificent but it’s the eyes that tell the story.”
" The reality is at £60,000 a week and being both thick and single, he is an attractive catch in the Liverpool area, where the only men with similar pay packets are drug dealers and therefore not at nightclubs , as they are often guests of Her Majesty

The mayor of Liverpool phoned the police who are investigating a 'hate crime'

Mackenzie's comments don't seem out of order ;the so called racist reference is being blown out of all proportion....Most white working class footballers are thick;it goes with the job.

Kelvin Mckenzie stuck up for the Sun when they didn't have a front page lead on the Hillsborough inquest where the fans were exonerrated from any blame that he apportioned onto them, must feel like a bit of a prat now.
The whole article is obviously stupid and an unprovoked / unnecessay attack on someone not as bright as him - because he doesn't need to be.
Bully got what he deserves.

I was just off to bed, But could not agree more SH, famous for 'Freddie star ate my Hamster' Headline. (Never mind the Infamous headlines) FFS, belongs in the same place as Max Clifford. GN.

The guy who made the complaint would have carried more weight if he had left the racist accusation out of it. Completely ludicrous slant on what was already a crass and stupid article that needed no interpretaion. If RB had been obviously black - or mixed race, does anybody in their righ mind really think the Sun would have run with that comparison. Get real.

Reminds me of the Venus Williams story when the US tennis pundit was sacked..
AMERICAN tennis pundit Doug Adler has been axed by ESPN after likening Venus Williams to “a gorilla” live on air.
Former professional Adler sparked outrage after his gaffe during a match at the Australian Open – but insists his words were misunderstood.
Adler was commentating on Williams’ second round tie with Stefanie Voegele when he said: “She misses a first serve and Venus is all over her. You see Venus move in and put the gorilla effect on. Charging.”
The 59-year-old says he was actually using the term “guerrilla”, describing a freedom fighter or rebel, rather than comparing her to the animal – a well known racist term.
- The Sun.
Classic overreaction.

Such a shame that The Sun has sunk to such deplorable depths that there seems to be no way back now.
I used to enjoy looking at the t1ts on page 3 when it was a respectable newspaper.

Another BBC taking something out of context. The Nigerian part is clearly no part of the article.
What he has written is ridiculous especially in the context of The Sun relationship with Liverpool.
But as The Sun is banned from Everton (and Liverpool?) no one seems to have picked up on the hypocrisy of allowing Sky to broadcast their games and enter the stadium? Same company and owners.

I wouldn't have thought it was possible to take the p iss out of Liverpool......it all went years ago.
Can't really see why the fuss;for more years I can remember Liverpudlians have been well known for being a bunch of scallywogs.

Noticed a screaming silence from Sunday Supplement on Sky this morning. When I saw Sean Custis was on I expected some sort of acknowledgment of the story, even if he's not KM's editor. - Zilch.
