Any coin collectors on here ? £1 coin question.

You mean will they ever become collectable due to rarity in your lifetime? Hardly likely is it, there are millions of em. My dad left a load of pre decimal bronze coins which were worth more because of the copper content, we weighed em in at the scrappers when copper was high.
I still have a large coin collection (and stamps) here now which I simply don't know what to do with. Spend the pounds on something nice and don't hoard low value junk for decades imo.

I'll use them to buy a couple of gold sov for the girls. Thanks Saddo.

No idea m8, probably spot, which is a shame as they are beautiful things (apart from hoss face). I have silver coins from all over and haven't been able to face getting rid.

I have a pile of silver coins.
Old sterling ones. 50% and loads of new ones.
I was a mug and purchased the garisoppa ones just because of the history.

I have to agree with the sitting on worthless junk now I think about it.
I have a vast cd collection that is worth nothing like what I spent.
As I've got older I've gone off or got bored if most of it.
As bad as interest rates are the money would of been better in the bank.
Similar to my watches. Had 12 at one point down to 7 now bit in reality you only wear one or two.

Lessons for the girls I think.

Depends whether you are collecting or investing. You could do the latter with one expensive watch, and you have something to wear.

There was an article about rare recent coins in the paper not long ago. Some can be surprisingly valuable, don't be too hasty.

Don't believe the description ''rare'' of the coins being offered on ebay.

I looked through my loose change and a third of them are on there.

The coins on there are crazy prices.
Why can't people be realistic.

Its like the media on about inflated ticket concert prices.  They look on eBay and see someone wanting £20,000 for a Justin Bieber ticket and go nuts.

Doesn't matter if people are mad if people are paying the prices.
Check the boxes for completed listsings and sold on the left so you see not what people are trying to sell them for but what people paid.
I've not looked myself for this but I do it for other things (Uranium, Japanese girls knickers, Elvis's toe nail clippings - I collect mundane stuff )

Yes just seems a waste of their own time if they overprice things.
I think I'll give it a go and list them in groups and see if any sell. 
Use the proceeds and any that are left to get a few gold sov

Stuff IS NOT WORTH WHAT PEOPLE ARE ASKING.... it is worth what it sells for (and even that need checking to be sure both seller and buyer are happy)

As Just Checking says - do your search then check on sold in the left hand column to see what actually sold and what it sold for, AND whether it is exactly what you have for sale.

Aunty I'm no sure people still do it. I just fancied a big clear out.
Have a few collections that I think the money would be better in my girls banks.

And my experience is people buy anything on ebay.
The bigger stuff goes yo charity shop.

But the buyers are happy.

Not very realistic.

there are reported to be 500 million dated 2016, and will be twice as many with this years date on

so unlikely to be worth much unless you find a mug on ebay

Before you cash your old £1 coins in, which you HAVE to do, before or by October, check if any have Edinburgh Castle on the back, with the word "Edinburgh" above it. They're worth around £40. I million were printed which sounds a lot, but it isn't.

These are selling regularly for £5 to £7 on Ebay.  I think it's people paying over the odds because they have read somewhere that they are worth around £40.

I have 3 EC ones Kenny (these are rare as only had 3 in around 10 years)
about 30 Cardiff
around 25 London and Belfast

along with the same of the thistle/daffodil/rose/shamrock
also lots of two pound ones
Have collected these as save up and used them to pay Car insurance/tax each year

you can have the lot for £1,000 if you want Kenny

ha ha,I've not actually looked into what the £2 are worth so don't know if that's a good offer or not wit-ham.

Anyone recall going through silver coins to find out if there were any pre 1947 ones in their change? Around D-Day. They were worth arond 6 times face value, if memory serves, and the pre 1920 ones were more valuable than that. All to do with the silver content of course. 

I used to (along with many others) go to various banks asking for bags of silver in exchange for notes. There were quite a lot about and I filled around a quarter of a jam-jar with my haul. Happy days.

Oh i'm not including the TWOpounds ones in that Kenny
although a few of those are fairly rare

You hang on to them mate, or rather don't as they'll be worhless after mid October. They can be worth up to £100 despite what blackbarn says.

sorry, the ordinary £1 coins will be worthless.
