Was gonna buy an iPads pro but wasn't too impressed when I went to Currys to check it out.

How about this Hp 2 in 1 laptop

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-x360-15-ar052sa-15-6-2-in-1-black-10147539-pdt.html

Seems to give more bang for the buck as they say.

If you want a tablet, there are better and cheaper ones than ipads. This Asus for under £200 for instance:
https://www.tesco.com/direct/asus-z380m-6a041a-tablet-16gb-wi-fi-in-dark-grey/504-7139.prd?skuId=504-7139

(Note it is sold buy a partner not by Tesco themselves).

Laptops and tablets are now far more powerful than most people need. Work out what you want to do rather than chasing the bleeding edge.

I keep my eye on this site every day.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/all/deals/hot

There's always something pops up if you can bide your time.

What do you need it for? If it's just bog standard browsing ect then any cheap deal will suit. I've found with laptops they tend to pack in after just a year while my desktop has lasted 3+ years.

I'm using one of these. It's the best laptop I've ever had.

Lots to choose from at ebuyer, and more importantly lots of peoples reviews to read http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Computer/cat/Laptops

Just back from Currys. Wow the choice is amazing and bamboozling.

Any road I went for this Samsung tablet:

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/tablets-and-ereaders/tablets/samsung-galaxy-tab-a-10-1-tablet-16-gb-black-10148587-pdt.html

Does everything I need I.e web browsing and porn Grin

Also it's cheap enough so if I break it I ain't too bothered.

Is there a big difference between the Samsung S1 and S2 models? I was too confused to look deep into it.

Oval - I've had my laptop for about eight years (Sony VAIO) and had no problems with it.

The only reason I'm about to get a new one is thar it only has 1 GB of memory and can be very slow.

I need it for: internet, MS applications (excel, word, database), storing photos.

Any recommendations?

Had my laptop for nine years, Dell Inspiron.

Baron - how much RAM on your laptop?
Report i_agree_with_nick March 25, 2017 4:35 PM GMT
I would add that not only have I had my Sony VAIO for about eight years, it's switched on 12-14 hours a day, seven days a week.

I find the hinges go first on any laptop, maybe I've just been unlucky. I've owned several over the years and none have lasted longer than 2 years. Then again, I've never spent more than £400 on one. I'm on a desktop but I bought this deal at XMas http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lenovo-z50-15-6-inch-amd-fx7500-8gb-1tb-laptop-black-249-99-argos-2586990

Unfortunately my missus claimed it and I'm still on the 3 year old desktop Cry

It's a minefield but I think anything over £300 will be fine. If you can wait, I'd hold out until something pops up like the deal I got, there's always good discussion on those threads with knowledgeable people. If you do buy something, stick a SSD in it and you'll notice an immediate improvement.

Might be of interest to those who want an iPad and don't mind jumping through some hoops to get one for £275

I got the same Foinavon but the 15" with I7 Processor

What I'd say is don't fall for the 2 in 1 hype as you'll never really use it as a pad & the hinges are heavy to flip it

actually bought mine at a Huge discount as the Touch has been disabled but suits me just fine as a brand new high spec laptop

Would probably prefer the 13" as the 15" is slightly heavy but a solid build the I7 makes it worthwhile & 256SDD is perfect , very fast for trading on Cool
Report Foinavon March 27, 2017 12:52 PM BST
Yes, it's a very fast machine and is solidly built. I use the touch screen a lot for scrolling and expanding the images and the tent mode is useful for my art projects as it takes up little desk space. The keyboard has a nice feel to it too. All in all, I'm very pleased with it.

I had an Asus that lasted 3 years ......... a couple of shops had a go at repairing it but failed. It wouldn't switch on intermittently ... although worked perfectly once it was on .. got worse and gave up the ghost.

Bought a Lenovo ideacentre for £600 from PC World and recovered the cost on here in 13 days. Grin

Very large screen and faster than the Asus.
Report curious-cat March 27, 2017 3:22 PM BST
The keyboard is separate .......... no hinge .... and the mouse is not attached by a lead either. Magic ! Grin

Thinking of getting this. Similar to what Foin has and possibly the same as McM.

Just a little concerned by a couple of poor reviews.

I bought my first laptop over seven years ago - HP Compaq Presario CQ71 17" widescreen running Win7.

Cost circa £350?

It's on its way out and I'll be replacing it soon.  Very soon1

I've looked around and there doesn't appear to be anything near it on the market today ... certainly not for the price I paid and I really do not trust Win10.

Any suggestions Team?

Ta.

My 8 year old Dell Vostro laptop only had 3GB Ram and was starting to struggle and after much research I bought an HP Elitebook laptop loaded with Win7.

Had it about a year now and very pleased with it so far.

I use a Samsung R530 laptop.  I bought it in August 2010 and it's still going strong.  I also have a Samsung D500 mobile phone that I bought in June 2006.  That works perfectly and has a long battery life.  I've found Samsung to be a reliable manufacturer.
Report Knight Commander May 7, 2017 10:29 AM BST
Agree about Samsung. My phone is the D900i, is 10-12 years old and is good as new.

On my 2nd Samsung tv too.
