now this is a proper chit chat thread!
can, and have - i too have played this game at the driving range! |

Bravo, sir! In my experience not many folks can get past the one-hundred yards mark. My ploy was to let them try first before placing bets. :)

I'm awful at throwing, I can remember I couldn't throw a tennis ball all the way across our yard in junior school - two of my mates could get one onto the roof of the assembly hall opposite, on a good throw they could make it bounce up the roof and over.
I doubt I'd be able to clear to even the bottom of the wall even today ![]() |

Try to adopt a throwing action with your elbow starting right down by the hip instead of level with the shoulder, sir. That's my tip of the day. :)

I can't even drive one that far!

In my pomp I'd do that fairly easily, knackered right shoulder now and I'd barely make it half way

Too much playing with yourself slippy ?
Or work injury |

I was a pall bearer for my Aunty over a year ago, the heights of everyone was not managed well and I ended up carrying the brunt of the coffin and my shoulder got crushed causing a big bursal tear which just won't heal. I've had several cortisone and steroid injections and loads of physio but it just won't get better. It's an absolute nightmare TheChaser.

Sorry to here of your Aunt ( did she leave you anything ? )
Can you claim compo ? |
|
By:
No and even if I could I wouldn't even dream of it! It's been a very nasty injury and I've had lots in my time playing rugby including broken ribs, broken collarbone etc but nothing compares to the grief this has caused me.

SlippyBlue you should have put some marbles in the coffin, that would of told you who wasn't doing their bit
|

Or who was taking all the weight?
Did I see this golf ball bet on The Real Hustle a few years ago? |
|
By:
Indeed Spot, I'll make sure I do that next time! Hope you are in good form Sir. Wimbledon's last meeting is Saturday week, I'll go to that for oldtimes sake to say goodbye to the place. Many happy memories from going to Plough Lane.

Imagine if the pall bearers actually dropped a coffin and the lid came off! You could hardly just carry on as if nothing had happened.
|
|
By:
Or a pall bearer died! I bet that must have happened a few times.
|
|
By:
Or a pall bearer died, the rest of them dropped the coffin and the lid came off! What a fiasco!

Some of these funerals are like a Carry On film.

True story
I was on a corner of a large swimming pool cover, four of us had to remove them from The Duchess of Norfolks smimming pool and carry them to the back of john dunlops riding school for the summer months, i was on a front corner, quickly and unexpectedly a work colleague who was at a back corner gave out a gasp, and collapse and was dead befor hitting the ground. A very sad time for all concerned. |

I worked as an undertaker in the summer hols for my uncle when I was 18, you do see some sights.
Once had 2 feuding family members 'help' carry, it'd all bee really tense up till we went to take the coffin out, one of them hoisted it onto his shoulder instead of keeping it his hands like everybody else. The tilt made all the flower arrangements fall off, the bases of them smashed and everything went all over the place, cue a mourner swooning in the front row ![]() I'd been out on the whizz the night before, so it was all a bit spacey. My uncle once had a sozzled (scouse) widow drape herself over the coffin singing Stand By Your Man ![]() |

![]() Also once carried one down some very steep steps (on our shoulders) and the wreath came whistling past my ear and smashed in font of us ![]() Another great one was when we got into the second set of doors in the church foyer and saw the funeral director marching towards us with a face like thunder... none of the men had checked there was a stand for the coffin in the church, meant we'd have to used the trolley on wheels, but we almost solemnly carried the coffin to the front of the church with nothing to put it on when we got there ![]() ![]() One funny little thing is that hearses have space for a coffin under the main one, so a hearse can set out to one funeral, then stop somewhere quiet and pop the other one out and on top without going back to base to 'refuel'. |

I've helped carry a couple of coffins. Bloody heavy. Why? The oldies rarely weighed much and the coffins are made out of tack?
With the ever increasing number of fatties, surely this must be a thing of the past. My wife tells an amusing story of a half a dozen men struggling with her mother's coffin in the sleet and rain on a churchyard on the side of a hill. |

I wouldn't trust the distance markers on golf driving ranges.

My favourite footballer Duncan McKenzie could throw a golf ball 125 yds. He also could jump over a Mini.
Like to see Zlatan do that! |
|
By:
I saw Duncan many times at Elland Road. Think he jumped over a car before one game, but I wasn't at that match.

oh you said that, doh.

My uncle did a burial for the mum of a local 'family'. All the brick sh*thouse sons are at the grave and as the coffin gets lowered, my uncle started sliding on the boards next to the grave in the mud. Without wanting to flap his arms about and cause a commotion he thought he was on his way into the grave, till he felt one of the sons grab him by his collar and hoist him back... 'No, me mam goes first' ![]() ![]() |

![]() My matetakes the dog for a walk and passes a local football pitch. He reckons he can throw a ball from one goalmouth to the other, and the dog will chase after it and return it to him within 20 seconds. ![]() Personally, I think that's far fetched. |

The scene in Stella of getting Big Al's mum's coffin in the church had me crying with laughter. She was a big girl. Had to get it through the door sideways. Still smiling just thinking of it.
