It's all about the money now. Whoever will make the most money for the record company after all the hype and promotion. The record companies do not want talent and originality because they want to be able to market and control the product their way.

It's an unedifying Ed fest out there at the moment. I liked his early stuff - that got him where he is - and a couple of tracks he has written for others.
A lot his songs aren't exceptional at all for me, and the way things are right now he could put out the audio of a strangled cat (apologies in advance to Kenny Mann), and it would be in the top 5. |

They seem to charge a huge amount to see these artists live. I think it's to compensate for the large drop in income they receive from record/album sales due to large scale pirating.
Live shows and not album sales is where most artists make their money these days. |
