The Tories should have chosen him to lead them instead of that clown Cameron, aided and abetted by the thick Gideon (all that education and privilege and ends up with a fookin useless history degree ... and then becomes C of Exch!!).

Davies is my kinda guy.  Working class origins, took his opportunities to get a good education.

I'm a big fan ... some time ago when he was asked a question once (can't remember details) he responded by saying something like when he was faced with a similar problem in his job (in industry) he did this ... and gave a straightforward experiential answer.

A politician with real life experience in industry and commerce, who's bright.  Very rare.

The mere thought of anyone wanting to kiss Abbot is a tad far fetched.

Mememe,

I remember Davis' campaign to become Tory leader in 2005. He bored the members to death by repeatedly talking about growing up on a council estate. At the time he would have been seen as yet another lurch to the right, the party having previously appointed Hague, Duncan-Smith and Howard. Both Hague and Howard led the Tories to electoral defeat, espousing similar policies to those that led the party to a landslide defeat in 1997. Had Davis been elected leader, the likely outcome in the 2010 General Election would have been a Lib/Lab coalition with the Tories remaining in stasis.

How can you draw that conclusion?

Wow?

Because the electorate still remembered 18 years of Tory rule and conservatives like Davis were part of that era. At the time Cameron represented a different, more compassionate brand of conservatism. Although it wasn't good enough to get him a majority, it did achieve the highest number of seats 2010, something Davis would have been unlikely to achieve given that he is too far to the right of the party.

Also I think Nick Clegg would have been more willing to strike a deal with Gordon Brown than with David Davis.

Just an opinion then ...

and mine is that I like the guy - and if he had been elected leader he would have won an overwhelming majority ... with a lot of ordinary aspiring people voting Tory.

Absolutely - we're all stating our opinions here.

I disagree that he would have won an overwhelming majority in 2010, indeed any majority in 2010 for the reasons stated above. However, were he leader in 2020, assuming that is the year of the next GE, I think he would win a majority (not an overwhelming one) given the current political climate.

from the hypocrisy of private schools, brexit, racist comments, chips on both shoulders, mystery illness,s to miss the most important vote in 50 years, etc,etc it must be one of the uk,s greatest mysterys how abbot keeps getting elected,i,assume her voters want labour in power and voting for her greatly diminishes any chance of that happening, unless all her voters are like her

We'll never know.

But if he were leader for 2020 election, assuming labour has gone by then, I think he'll pick up a lot of support from UKIP leaning voters ... but just an opinion.

Anyway it won't matter I guess as there'll probably be no opposition (except UKIP, and they're really a one issue party and Brexit will be over by then).  Tories will walk it in 2020, even if a donkey was their leader.  (IMO)

Erm, where do I say Labour wouldn't win?

But truth doesn't fit your agenda, does it.  Didn't believe my miner Grandfather voted Tory all his life, because it doesn't fit your prejudice, does it?

the council estate david davies grew up on is hardly a typical menacing, enclosed, concrete jungle estate, as far as estates go it's quite pleasant, a few mini blocks dotted around a green.

Revealed: Jeremy Corbyn 'showed off' naked Diane Abbott to impress Left-wing friends DT 29 January 2016

I always thought lefties were nutters but if one of them thinks that showing a naked Diane Abbott would impress them, thenI've been too kind.

And he wants to be PM?  And they want him to be?  LaughLaughLaugh

Think it was more a case of Jeremy Corbyn showing his friends he was no longer a bearded virgin.

The fact that she is black would have given him extra status among the progressive nerds.
