They've got psychological issues when they have to believe in something where's there's no scientific proof it exists.
Whether they've got MH issues I wouldn't know, but not rational. Wouldn't (ideally) want to be treated by a doctor or nurse that was religious, if I had a choice. For me, logic and religion are opposite sides. |
|
By:
for a lot of people religion is a comfort whether they truly believe in in or not, and in such a big bad world who are we to take that away from them. For many others it's a part of culture, something you're born into, not much to do with mental illness.

Sheesh! Look into LIFE and see the mystery of biology. Then have a good think

SH, I was born into a mildly god fearing family ... Sunday school, no footie on Sundays sort of thing.
I grew up and naturally started to look for evidence of god and when I saw a Sunday Times article (Colour Supplement) showing the horrors of the Vietnam War, at 17 I realised there was no god, or if there was he was an evil fooker. He's an evil **** if he/she/it exists. |

not mentally ill - it's a way of coming to terms with things that are beyond human understanding

I'm not intelligent enough to understand the complexities of life as A_T says, so I don't believe in religion based on simple reasons such as what mememe has given, but understand why certain people are religious.
The worst kind of pain is when you've lost a family member either too young or in horrific circumstances, that can include slowly dying of cancer, I will never understand the point of that and it would make me resent any God if there were one. I also don't understand the point of worshipping a God, I'd rather not worship anyone. But in my experience, most religious people are peaceful people who do good, it just might not seem that way beause of the extremely loud minority starting wars in the name of religion. |
|
By:
Many people believe strange things, it doesn't mean they are mentally ill. Most of my friends and neighbours, including my wife, have religious beliefs of one type or another and they are perfectly normal people.

Zorro explained through the use of glove puppets the concept, but I just cant see who/what/where/how you can love something that is so cryptic as to not even know if they exist.
Like do you have to pray kneeling down, are thoughts as good as prayers, to what extent was an act acceptable during life, which sins have been absolved and if you become 'born again' then does it set the original sins right even if you then loose your faith later? All a mystery innit, but zorro will be along shortly... |

By:
If parents did not inculcate their children there would be no religion.

well said Saddo.
religion is an evil concept. Believing in a god is understandable (but I don't) |

I had a looksee at those commandments just in case and think I scored around 7.5 out of 10 which is pretty fookin good in my book.
Way I see it if you keep on the good side of those just in case...... |

I'm just as mystified, Dusty. I've visited many churches and great cathedrals when there are few people about and I see a vast empty space with nothing there apart from a few decorations and statues. It's like an empty theatre waiting for an audience and actors in fancy dress to appear on stage. Sure enough, at regular intervals a performance takes place, there is audience participation and they go home content, but that's all there is. |
|
By:
these big empty buildings are full of history , find a local to
guide you to points of interest, before or after the audience participation bit climb to a high point and gain a view of the area |

Brainwashing and fear contribute immensely to some people believing.
Brainwashing in as much as being born into a family of believers and being taken to church regularly from a very early age. Fear in the message preached from the pulpits if you don't live by the word. I remember being taught in Sunday school of a God of love. Very hard to accept that as you grow older and see the misery that exists. |
|
By:
Very hard to accept that as you grow older and see the misery that exists.
Because we were given a choice of how to behave. Nothing is meant to be easy, why should it be? |
|
By:
^ There are billions of planets with intelligent civilisations on them......you think there is one 'God' juggling them all ?
Much more likely are the theories of Darwin, Evolution and survival of the fittest. The universe has been in existence for 14 billion years, that is where all the diversity of life comes from There our theories that we may be in a virtual reality simulation but I doubt that, but I would wouldn't I. |

By:
Most religious belief comes from indoctrination from families and passed down the generations.

Are you difficult to break out of that indoctrination.

of course there is scientific proof of god.
thermodynamics rule number 1=nothing creates nothing rule number 2=energy can not be created or destroyed. so I ask, where did the energy of the universe come from it had to be there before the big bang even if it was in a dot the size of a pea,and it had to come from something. ![]() |

By:
hI CARDIFFFC,how are you my good man,? I did not make the Thermodynamics rules. If the rules do not work they would have to chuck all the science books in the waste paper basket. The God I speak of is a God of nature,a type of Spinoza God,not the biblical God but a GOD no the less.Even Spinoza himself and the great man Albert Einstein would agree with me if they were alive today.
So its my guess that anyone who does not believe in God has not looked hard enough for him.the amazing thing about it is that he is all around you. ![]() |

So where did God come from?

I have two guys who get the coupons (midweek and week end)I give them 300 each per week to lay odds on away teams only and have showed them my staking plan starting at 20 quid.i never look at the results, last year one account showed 22 grand profit and the other showed 20 grand .they both got payed there 300 each per week out of each account account so the 42 grand was net profit but the only get paid during (august to may)and they are not allowed do any other bets for me.they play my system for me and im happy and they are happy.

who created God?
why does evil exist - or why does suffering and corruption exist? Is there scientific proof of God? famous scientists that believed in God? were they mentally ill? Sad men in life without knowledge of God. The bible. Answers God is eternal and perfect - nobody created him. He is spirit(jesus said this) he is not physical. He speaks and matter comes into being. He is a higher dimensional being. He created time and the physical universe which all exists within four dimensions. As part of true freedom, the choice of evil exists. To teach mankind why evil is not a valid choice, the knowledge of good and evil was placed in the garden. Corruption was introduced into creation. The creation is now cursed with death and pain. To redeem those that are within this life, God gave us Jesus and the holy spirit. The Jews are the proxy people. the middlemen that God speaks thru. They tried for thousands of years to be good by the law. They offered animal sacrifices. They had weird cleansing rituals to take away their sins. All of this was short lived. Because men sin again and again. So God stepped in as it was his plan from the start (the word was with God) No action by man can redeem him. But God's Action can. Jesus stepped in after 4000 years to save by GRACE - law became the inferior method. By claiming Christ as your savior your sins past and future are on him. He took all of the sins of the world with him to the cross and hell. For three days he was in hell. Then God returned and ascended to prepare a place for those that would believe and be saved. He left the holy spirit with his followers and the holy spirit can be anyone's helper if he is invited in. Science - Matter from Nothing? Is that scientific. The Goldilock proposition - if one factor of hundreds of constants are out - we don't exist. Yet the constants are shifting all the time? this has been recognized by scientists. Life needs life to exist - all life feeds off other life? We need plants. Plants need microbes. Microbes feed off other life. So for life to start to exist - it needs food. Ernst Boris Chain (nobel Prize winner) debated Darwinists in his later years. Co worker and friend to Florey who created antibiotics. As concerning creation, he said, “Apes, after all, unlike man, have not produced great prophets, philosophers, mathematicians, writers, poets, composers, painters and scientists. They are not inspired by the divine spark which manifests itself so evidently in the spiritual creation of man and which differentiates man from animals.” Louise Pasteur wrote many times about Darwinism being twaddle. The three top physicists voted by global poll - all believed in a God. Sir Isaac newton - wrote over a million words about the bible, he did some science in his spare time. These writing are now made available for the first time by Cambridge and other prestigious universities.(all mentally ill?) http://www.newtonproject.ox.ac.uk/texts/newtons-works/religious James Clerk Maxwell - possibly greater than Einstein, created a lot of the language of physics. Albert Einstein said without him he would have came up with nothing. Devout christian. Albert Einstein - mentions God a lot. Many quotes can be found. Although not a christian. Sad sacks that don't believe in God. All they see is the material world. They deny the soul. They deny God any credit for his creation. They think they know stuff? but the scientists are always saying themselves the more they learn the more they realize they are just opening doors to new mysteries. They say they are related to Apes? but are always trying to impress their fellow men with what they know. Clever apes. They never will get off the mudball called earth. They'll just degrade it more with plastic and radiation. Money is their God. "they know the cost of everything and the value of nothing" they deny that emotions exist. That it's a chemical process. Their souls are ignored and wither. Their self imposed blindness is intentional. They cannot surrender to God. Because God is superior to them in every aspect. They cannot accept there is a higher authority. They refuse that there will be a judgement put upon them. Yet they are judged by man all thru their lives. It's just God that angers them. They don't accept being tested. But accept scientific testing as good. Sad sacks. oops the bible, the stumbling block Here is a book that is 3000 years old. The old testament and the new. Sad sacks pick it up and read the words without the holy spirit and see the surface meaning. They don't understand it's encrypted. The book has weird number construction within it. Which cannot be explained. Please remember this book is thousands of years old, yet it still is regarded by many to be the most complex book in history. It has Pattern, repeating concepts. It uses Paradox, something not used in literature until the 18th century. Idiots compare it to books written in this century? what book is it's match. Name one you sad sacks. ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’ But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it" (Matthew 13:10-17). Finally God gave us 6000 years to choose. Do you love God or Hate him. All you sad sacks know God exists but you argue your petty trivial disputes out in forums with him. As if your opinion on the universe was pertinent. God created the universe to refine his creation. To drop the slag on the floor to create fine gold. Sad sacks don't make it into heaven because they don't love God, just themselves. |

I'll take my chances mate. eternity is how long? more than five years.. |

I start to read zorro said accounts but straight away the logic puts me away.
Jesus apparently said God isn't physical he's a spirit....yet clearly he's male and apparently created man in his own image, so that sounds a bit like willow the whisp. Never starts well for me cos the father the son and the Holy Ghost and Jesus being the Lord to whom they pray rather than God himself all gets very confusing.....like they made it all up. |

no mate - they made you up.

who created god?.................MAN (NAP)
|

I already answered this below Sad sack - learn to read young man, learn to read.
God created god, then God created god - it's called infinite regression - That's not God God is not finite. Eventually you realize something has to be eternal. God is not a created being. He is before TIME. God created time. The mind before matter. Spirit is pure thought, in higher dimensions. If i ask you to make something like a cardboard box for a parcel on ebay? what do you do? you first think about it? you can sit and do nothing and therefore the box is never going to exist? or you might sit down and plan on paper what you need to do. or jump in and start to cut the card you got from a stationary store. the box is built and if you have paid attention it might be a sturdy box. the thought is the parent to creation. if you have the devil in you - you circumvent creation and steal a ready made box. here is a link to a video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr5lY0TcdAw |

Is box thievery now a sin against God too?
