I am now at an age where my default position is that generally a person (in the general public) is stupid.

It works for me - and what you describe would fit my theory.  If I went to a concert (which I wouldn't because I would fear it being populated by morons) would just confirm my theory.

I'm not in good humour this afternoon.

I played golf this morning and got cold and wet and didn't play well.

Only good thing is that there were no fooking morons on the course waving their phones about like, well, like fooking morons.

It is an extraordinary modern phenomenon - I was lucky enough to be at much of the Olympics.  Couldn't believe how many people were watching the 100m final for example through their phones.  Just watch it with your fcking eyes you morons! Easily available to view online on youtube with much better cameras at much better angles.

I've seen when Celebrities do these walkabouts greeting fans behind the metal fencing at premiers of whichever film...with fans having their back turned on the celebrity but holding up thier phone to get themselves and the filmstar in the same picture, even when them come close they don't turnaround but still scream

Today’s modern phones are able to capture high quality video. There are a multitude of smaller events that will not have professional videos available ever. I'd say many people who can't make these events are delighted to see a video of the event.

Have seen some half decent ones of the Kate Bush Hammersmith gigs, but they are soon taken down.

I always wonder about people standing there and videoing a concert or other event too. It does make you wonder why people bother.

However, I have to say that there seems to be less people doing it when I go to gigs now - I guess that they are slowly realising what a waste of time it is.

I watched a really good, and rare, video of "Procol Harem" in Denmark.

Look how orderly and appreciative the audience are.

Ok, I see that the audience seem to be older generation, for the most part, but not a phone to be seen!

Either way it's worth a watch because it's sensational......

Baffling behaviour.

One of the more satisfying aspects of having been present at one of Joy Division's final gigs in 1980, or having watched Somerset chase down 362 in two sessions to beat Yorkshire in 2010, was not just the fact that so few of us were there to see something so special, but also that there was no way anyone not there would ever get to experience the thrill, even at second hand. Instead they'd just have to tolerate us boring them with details for years to come. And what's more, we'd be able to embellish the event in the re-telling as much as we liked.

I mean, I was a bit disappointed really when I found highlights of HSV coming from behind to beat Bayern 4-3 in Munich in 1982 available on YouTube. The game was as exciting as I remembered it, but a match that became immortal back in Hamburg just became a little bit less epic for being visible.

Be careful what you wish for. If an intrepid mobile phone journalist was not alert and on hand we, and future generations, would be denied important historical footage such as this.

MD, we all know that Clunes shouldn't have parked there but that young fella was way OTT with swearing at him and calling him nasty.

Clunes was right to say 'how nasty is this in the great scheme of things' He was good humoured and pleasant the whole time, unlike the biker.
