The wraps  can now come off the news that my daughter Pam has officially retired from rowing

She leaves the sport with, for now, a little bit of history on her side, as the most successful Paralympic oarsman ever; the only Rowing competitor to win two gold medals (London 2012 and Rio 2016).

All of which pales into insignificance set against the good wishes conveyed to her by the chit-chat massive over the years.

Thanks everyone for all the messages of support over the years.

Oh I see what you did  there.

Rowing (the sport) juxtaposed with Rowing (an argument)

Amazing!

Well done to her.  Only really followed the sport due to your contributions on here and enjoyed watching.  Particularly impressed when she popped up on University Challenge last year.  Very talented young lady; she will go far.  Good luck Pam.

The Girl Done Great.

Congratulations on a terrific sporting career, and hope that Pam can accomplish many more inspiring achievements outside of the sporting arena.

It can't be easy to retire from competitive sport, but Pam's achievements are immense and will give her great memories and self belief for the future.

All the best to her.

missing leg?
missing arm?
Crocked Shoulder?

no, just arthritis that clearly didn't impede her efforts to use her hands and fingers to row to gold twice

What a classy way to bow out. I wish more women would show as much dignity when being replaced by a younger lass with a faster stroke rate.

Brilliant by crisp

And brilliant by Pam

My feeble offering - I went out with an oarswoman once. Sadly we drifted apart.

Fantastic achievement roger and best of luck to her in her retirement. It will be weird not training for all the comps I'm sure!

aquiesce, para-athletes are placed in  different categories for the competitions which is judged on their impairment.

I'd be worried about my heart playing up after Andrew Marr had that stroke on a rowing machine
