it's because he's a cool, hip DJ, like a few on the BBC (Steve Wright, for example) - prob wears jeans and cheesecloth shirt and shades indoors.

BBc sacks Brian Matthew and keep this moron

I thought all DJs, apart from the late John Peel (who only seemed to talk over, when he chose the wrong speed), spoke over parts of the song.

.... wrong speed, what's that mean..eh?..
. would say my young smartarse son

Would be nice if the DJ's told you who the artist is/was
at the start/ end of a piece as thought this was the idea of them

old habits die hard

a legion of cassette recorders hoping the dj remains silent

good old days

Replace DJs with robots that play the whole tune and give the song title and artist after, this could save a lot of tax payers money and save the listener from the inane chat from the ego in chair.

WAS CE EVER ENtertaining?ever funny?
Report saddo February 7, 2017 12:44 PM GMT
No, but he hoodwinked enough trendy producers into thinking he was.

But WTF did she see in him?

Squeaky voiced ****

Either adverts for half of each hour or lots of naff DJ's on the main Beeb stations.

Radio 6 or Dandelion Radio on t'internet are the only ones I would ever listen to nowadays.

CE is a good DJ and an even better host on TV. TFI FRIDAY was unmissable viewing in the 90s. It takes a very good anchor man to keep a show like that together at such a pace. Very few would be up to the job but Evans made it look easy.

TFI was great......and still was when brought back  last year was it ?
He did excel at that making the chaos look easy .

Well apart from them sometimes having to play dreadful modern bands on the show sometimes.

When Sara Cox stands in for egotistical little twerp the show is light years superior and as an added bonus Sara lets the record play uninterrupted AND gives the artist and title.Shame she can't get the morning gig full time.

Yes, it was still worth watching on its return, though didn't hold quite the same appeal now I'm that bit older. Thought Evans might be indulging himself having his very young son on interviewing the guests, but the lad did well.

i always thought DJs talked over songs to stop people at home recording them on cassette players
Report TELL DEL February 7, 2017 8:40 PM GMT
^ I use to think the same, so you had to buy the CD in order to get the track without the DJs talking over the intros and outros. Record companies encouraged DJ talk-over and always thought it was to discourage home taping. So if you want to just listen to the music uninterrupted, buy it.

I have several old 45's for radio play and the Intro timing of the song is on all of them, so DJ's would know how much talk-over time they had till the vocals started. Just pick one at at random, 'Me And You And A Dog Named Boo'. Song runs for 2.52, and a small white label stuck on the record 'Intro 7 secs'

Evans definitely the worst. He thinks listeners can't go longer than 2 minutes without hearing his voice.
DJs love Hotel California. They can talk for nearly a minute at the beginning and the end.

I think it started before home taping and in the 60s was to stop other radio stations taping and then broadcasting the new Beatles song you'd bribed the record company (or they'd bribed you -- remember payola?) to let you have a week early.
