I've had my iPad now for about 4 or 5 years and it's getting slower and slower as time progresses. Booting up used to take about 20 seconds when I first got it, but now it takes well over a minute. The memory is not full (about 50%). I've done all the ios updates when they came along. Today, it didn't boot up at all and I had to press both the button to start up on the side AND the button on the front face simultaneously, hold them both down for 10 seconds or so, and then it worked (booted up successfully after about 70 seconds).

Anyone else have similar problems, and anyone here have any idea to overcome this slowness?

All part of the Apple plan, they make you want to buy a new one. Plain

Had the same with mine. There are a few things you can do here: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/ipad/how-speed-up-ipad-tips-tricks-3632709/

(Mind you, it will probably take about two hours for you to download the link). Ultimately though, they don't last forever. I replaced mine with a 12.9 inch Pro which I have to say is magnificent.

Just factory reset it and download the stuff you most use.

One thing that I didn't know about until recently was how many pages queue up in case you need them.
Press the button twice quickly, then swipe off the pages one at a time.

Surprised at the boot up taking so long. Do you mean you switch it off when not using, or just one press switch off?

I've bought iPads since release, and usually keep them for between 2-3 years, sell them on ebay, then pick up a 6mth - 1yr old on same or gumtree. Re-sale value is decent (even with broken screen / faults), so your cost of ownership is pretty low if you buy / sell second hand.

mad mad moon - yes, I'm aware of the queueing up of pages and regularly delete webpages. When I switch off the iPad I hold down the button on the side of the unit for 5 seconds which closes down the iPad completely.

Ovalman - thanks for that, I might give that a go.

Numerous logs, caches, deleted files and temporary files clog up iphones and ipads, get a cleaner like iMyFone Umate or similar to clean it up.  If you use Safari, clean the cookies etc and get rid of the apps you don't use. It's also amazing what can run even though you're not using it, turn off as many 'run in background' options as you can.
