Mel Gibson has excelled himself with this one.

Incredible scenes of horror, bravery and the sheer futility of war. Not for the faint hearted..

The true story of a medic (Desmond Doss) who refused to carry a gun, faced court martial, a beating by his fellow soldiers and labelled as a coward.

He proceeded to save dozens of men in impossible conditions and win the respect and love of his comrades.

One of those 'important' films which highlight the best and worst of mankind.

story stolen from dads army episode branded

I watched the first hour and had to stop it. I agree it looked very good, I will definitely watch the rest of it.

It's a true story Cardiff, so it's not really stolen from Dads Army.

Seeing this Thursday, from what I hear, a 15 rating seems quite leniant.

15 is very low, agreed.

I looked away more than once...

I was relieved the first part of the film was quite different and gave a build up for what was to come..

Tempted to go and watch this film.

Is it anything like inglourious basterds which I thought was total Hollywood crap?
Report Facts February 1, 2017 12:21 PM GMT
I doubt it. The film you mentioned was directed by Tarantino, who is a genius at script writing and film making.
HRidge is directed by someone who definitely isn't .
Report Injera February 1, 2017 2:36 PM GMT
As a true story it carries a certain gravitas. If the events were fictional one could easily say it was Hollywood taking liberties making the impossible seem possible.
Report s.kenbo February 1, 2017 5:42 PM GMT
Tarantino's over hyped imo. I've not been a huge fan of his post 2000 work.

I've still not watched all of HR, but I think Gibson's done a great job.
Report TheBaron February 1, 2017 6:05 PM GMT
Did he manage to work in an anti English angle into the film?
Report toonangel February 1, 2017 6:45 PM GMT
good film would have been a lot better if vince vaughn was not in it. his acting was dire.
Report Just Checking February 1, 2017 6:48 PM GMT
"inglourious basterds" isn't very good as it's the overrated Tarantino who doesn't make very good films but it's "kewl" to like him, leading to a generation or two of students sticking reservoir feckin dogs posters on their walls.

Interestingly it's title is taken from a 70s Italian film from an era when the Italians used to do War Films that were like Spaghetti Westerns, known as

.. wait for it ...
