The Quebec authorities have not identified the suspects, but Radio Canada quoted a source close to the investigation as saying that they were students at Laval University in Quebec City and one was of Moroccan origin.

An eyewitness told the radio station that two hooded people had burst into the mosque. One opened fire on those praying and shouted "Allahu Akbar", Arabic for "God is Great".

One of the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle but was arrested on a bridge leading to Orleans Island, local media reported. The suspect had called the police himself, Radio Canada said.

One thing I noticed tonight: both the Guardian and the BBC webpages had a photograph of the accused a few hours after the crime. He is, of course, white. I don't ever remember those publications being too sharp publishing photographs of the accused in other crimes; in fact, most of the time they do not even give a written description.

Why could that be?

The BBC published photos of Amri, Abdeslam, Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, Ali Artan, Kermiche, Petitjean, Daleel, Muhammad Riyad, Abballa, Mateen and the Brussels bombers. The Guardian did not show pictures of all of those, but did for most and when they did not they published his name.

You're missing the point. Why was Europe so successful and peaceful after WW2. Well after the war there was a forced repatriation of people to their countries. The deportations at the wars end led to mono ethnic countries. These countries had a form of government and way of life that was based upon the American way or the Soviet way.
In the west this was freedom and values based on cultural imperialism that said these are the value to build our country on
And it  was astonishingly successful, and peaceful.

When you have countries where there are many different languages, such as in Africa , and different tribes with different religions and cultures you have a country that is more violent and unstable and almost ungovernable .

Switzerland is a Christian county, has always been so. They have agreed that their values are the same values of freedoms based on European values, not other values. Because what is Switzerland ? It is what it is and cannot be forced to be something different.

But in the late 20 c something surprising was found after all that history .
These 1000 statelets in modern Germany still hold that same distinction between the catholic states and Protestant
