Can think of a few...

The Gambler -  with James Caan – 1974 – the psychology of Gambling
Lemon Drop Kid – Bob Hope – the funny side of gambling
Cincinnati Kid – Steve mcQueen  - the analytical side of gambling
The Great Sinner – Gregory Peck – the spiritual side of gambling
Hard Eight, The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo, Rounders and others?

my favourite is.. Let it Ride.

Can you name a good gambling movie.

I can't remember what it's called but the one set in Las Vegas where the Harvard maths prof recruits his top students to learn to card count and they go over to Vegas.

Can't remember much else about it as I watched it while enjoying a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

Can't remember the end! (of the film, Pinot bottle ended empty, though)

A French film about the 'ultimate' form of gambling, Russian Roulette.

A difficult watch at time but worth checking out.

Croupier with Clive Owen is well worth a view.
There's a bit where he gives a degenerate gambler a lucky break as a sort of experiment, won't say any more but it really tweists the knife.

New gambling film due out soon ... Carry on Betfair.

It's based on a bunch of forumites who spend all day posting on the Chit Chat forum.  Critics who have seen a preview have only given it a 1* rating.

One critic reported "apart from the excellent mememe, the rest, frankly, seem like a bunch of nutters"

Le Cop. Especially the bit where Rene's had a tip for one at Vincennes and has to switch on the blue light and siren to make it to the PMU desk in time to get on.

Also the scene at the end where he leaves jail, thinks he's been forgotten, but the mist slowly clears and there are his mates with a trotter they've bought for him with the loot.

Haven't seen it for about 25 years. Don't understand why it's never on the box. A classic.

For a more realistic view of gambling, Mississippi Grind is worth a watch:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2349144/

Down on his luck and facing financial hardship, Gerry teams up with younger charismatic poker player, Curtis, in an attempt to change his luck. The two set off on a road trip through the South with visions of winning back what's been lost.

That episode of Heartbeat, where Greengrass is taking bets on a boxing match.
He gives 4-1 the outsider, 6/4 the favourite.
And when someone in the pub moans 6-4 is a bit stingy, he gives them 2-1 Laugh

Skippy  Episode 74 "The Sport of Kings"

Mark is to ride in a horse race at Royal Randwick, and Matt, Sonny, Clancy and Skippy are attending with Sir Adrian. When the horse Stormaway knocks Mark over in a horse float and he hits his head, he is injured, and Clancy takes his place. Skippy bets $1 on "Wallaby Bill" and collects $34. Stormaway starts badly but makes up ground and wins the race. But Stormaway is disqualified. Skippy shows off her winnings.

Joel - haven't seen it for ages, but it was ok...about a girl jockey in Australia, with racing scenes.
Report Velasquez January 31, 2017 9:31 PM GMT
Can't believe it's from 1977...from imdb Aussie review...

"Apart from a lacklustre script with lazy dialogue, this tripe is adorable and horribly cute. The direction is insipid and uncinematic, while the performances is amateur hour, with some of the actors seeming to ham it up because they knew what kind of turkey they were cooking in. I am sure it was only made because of the producer's love for horse racing and gambling.

But still I enjoyed it!

Great to see Aussie suburban life from the seventies, and the operation of a racing horse stable. And I'm glad they used actual jockeys, race callers and other local Melbourne horse racing identities of that era, because it gave it an authentic feel to it, something I wished they had done for the whole film. If only they created a kind of neorealism film of the horse racing industry! Instead they went for the TV soapie style that delivered pure campy elements to a predictable story."
