Mirjana Lucic-Baroni

Incredible story.

As a 15 year old she was a child prodigy in tennis, won her first round at Australian Open in 1998 (and won the ladies doubles that year) and made the semis of Wimbledon in 1999. Since then not a sniff of even a grand slam quarter final, including seven years not even playing and 7 first round losses in Melbourne with no victories.

This year, at 34 years old, she has beaten No 3 seed Radwanska and now No 5 seed Pliskova to make the semis - 18 years after her previous one.

Just an incredible, inspirational story.

(Incidentally, of the 8 semi finalists across the men's and women's singles, 6 of the players are 30+ including a 35 (Federer), 36 (Venus), 35 (Serena) and 34 (Lucic-Baroni). Go the oldies.
