RIP Graham Taylor......

Top bloke. Lived locally. One opened his after dinner talk at my golf club  with the line.. "Firstly I'd like to welcome Fabian Bartez's father for coming this evening ' while looking straight at me.

I liked him very much, a real warmth about him. Shame.

Always very good as a pundit on Radio 5.

RIP Mr Taylor

Seemed like a very decent man, he was England manager when I first started going to their games and although not great games they created great memories.

He was, indeed, a breath of fresh air as a pundit.

There will be a 90-minute show on BBC Radio 5 live tonight from 19:00 GMT remembering Graham Taylor's life.

He is sadly responsible for the most overused quote of modern times.

Much liked, very warm and funny man. One of the best pundits ever on Radio 5.

Remember him telling the story of when he had just finished with the England job and had minor concerns about potential abuse when he and his good lady went out in public.
The first time they did venture out in public was at a cinema or theatre and when they walked in to take their seats they received a standing ovation.

He was more liked than most.

I always liked the bloke ,also enjoyed his radio work   - will always be remembered at Watford .

He started out as a player as defender at Grimsby and Lincoln City, before taking over as manager at Lincoln in 1972, leading them to to old Fourth Division title in 1975-76 before joining Watford.

In his first spell as Hornets boss between 1977 and 1987, Taylor took the club from the old Fourth Division to the top flight and, in 1983, Watford finished second to Liverpool.

He also took Watford to the 1984 FA Cup final, where his side were beaten by Everton.

Taylor took over at Aston Villa in 1987 in the Second Division, leading they to promotion as runners-up. Under his guidance, Villa finished as First Division runners-up in 1989-90.

He was then appointed England boss but resigned in 1993 after the team's failure to qualify for the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

Following his spell with England, Taylor returned to club management and also became a renowned pundit for BBC Sport.
