Talking to my guests over dinner last night, and we got on the subject of regional accents, and sayings e.g....

"Frame thee sen and cap folk"

"Ee aye top n ar coyl oyl"

"Tha goes darn eer and tha turns darn quick"

"Nay cocker ar lass is painting t'roof o t' house"....

......all said to me or in the presence of me.

Please translate.....

Nay cocker ar lass is painting t'roof o t' house - No my dear chap, my good lady wife is currently painting the upper level of our living quarters.

And my own personal favourite - Ivry Sunda she meks enuff Yorkshires ter flag a pig-oyl (Every Sunday she makes enough Yorkshire puddings to pave a pigsty).
