Andy Murray has accepted a Knighthood

Maybe he accepted to please others, I'd imagine that his granny is chuffed to bits.

As such awards go, and considering who they go to, I think Andy and Mo deserve them.

He is already honoured for his services to tennis, he is given a replica trophy each time you don't need to be called a Sir unless you have a huge ego, wanting Scotland to break away from Britain and then accepting a knighthood is peculiar. I always support Murray against Englanders who mock him for whatever reason, but can't do here.

He was already an OBE, it's simply an upgrade.

Scotland has been an independent country for most of its existence. In fact, it was a single kingdom while England still consisted of five separate kingdoms. Scottish knights actually predate English knights.

What's more, Scotland is not a vassal of England, it's the other way round. The fact is that the Union of The Crowns came about when a Scottish king was crowned King of England when Elizabeth of England died. The United Kingdom came much later.

With the history lesson over, Andy Murray has already said that he will refuse to answer to "Sir Andy".

I am not a fan of any of these kind of honours, Victoria Beckham's has been awarded an OBE for services to Fashion, she only started her business 8 years ago and her design team are the one's designing before being sold at high end stores. I thought it cringworthy that Bruce Forsyth was hankering after one for so many years.

not really, if he refused the knighthood altogether that would more like it. If he doesn't want anyone to call him Sir Andy why accept it in the first place

And yes, the interviewer did bring it up, he was clearly uncomfortable but dealt with it well enough.

Back to the honors system, very easy to pick holes all over it.

However, it exists and is unlikely to go away any time soon and you really do need to consider who the family, friends and colleagues of recipients will feel about an award being granted.

A lot of people help those who are recognized to achieve whatever was deemed worthy of recognition and they will feel a certain amount of pride in the honor going to "one of theirs".

Sean Connery was knighted whilst still funding and supporting the SNP...
