Can we give Charles this purely on *definition* ?

Might I suggest that a small portion of the population of Dewsbury relocate themselves to Poundbury, say a couple of thousand, and perhaps we can see if Charles changes his mind.

He's a staggeringly stupid man,  especially given his immensely privileged education.

and i don't mean that the sentiments behind his comments aren't without merit, rather that given his family's alleged behaviour in 1930s, as well as his vision of how the UK should be, making a statement like this seem a confused and hypocritical piece of grandstanding.

The only antonym I can find for "populism" is "elitism", which, I suppose, captures the whole "debate" in a nutshell.

It's a word that's being horribly misused at the moment, demagogism is probably the better word.

They re-write the dictionary definitions almost monthly these days.

TBF He is AFAIK directign a lot of his ire at the perseucution of Christians in middle eastern countries, something he's spoken out about before, and which is real.
Real persecution, not the "he looked at funny and that's a hate crime" type of perecution of a certain group the BBC and C4 love to talk about.

I don't know because I haven't read the whole Quran. And then of course Islam itself may have interpretations of the Quran that I may not agree with. At this time, I just don't know. If my basic idea seems plausible, I will have to spend some time talking to an expert on Islam to learn more.

I'm middle of the road in my political beliefs yet I too would dump the monarchy once the queen dies and as far as democracy is concerned it has proved to be an over rated philosophy.Give me a strong leader for say 5 years and let him have carte blanche to rid the country of those we want to get rid of.

I don't think that is entirely true. Most people knew nothing of the holocaust until after the war when the true horror of it was revealed.
Britain and France were fighting for freedom from an aggressive neighbour and his poodle, hell-bent on the conquest of Europe by force. This also became true of the Soviets after Hitler betrayed the pact with Stalin.

Now Europe is bending over to share it's lands with anyone who wants em, what a turnaround.

I think there is a deliberate attempt to misrepresent WW2, more so as the older generation dies out.
One of my neighbours used to bring her daughter for help with Maths and English tuition. One day she showed me what she had learned about WW2 in history. She thought the main event was about Ann Frank and had written an essay on it. Now I know that was a tragic incident but I hadn't heard of Ann Frank until about 50 years after the end of the war and I am sure it wasn't about her at all.

I think your first post was right, we fought to avoid being being invaded. No longer.
