Met daughter for lunch today. Only been once before to another else where.

Last time wasn't good as the "music" was deafening, so not only my deaf goodself, but the whole family couldn't hear anything!

Today, for convenience we were at the one in Selby.

I opted for the Mushrooms in Garlic and Cheese Sauce. Nice enough but incredibly mean on quantity!
Five small button mushrooms and two minute pieces of toasted Ciabatta bread.

Asked for more bread and, on the third time of asking, was brought one slice of a brown loaf!

I never saw anything like that; I mean couldn't they have at least cut it into four triangles?
It  brought me back to Oliver asking for more!!!

Fortunately we were saved by my grandson wanting to sleep, as it was in fairness overdue.

If you were at home, even on your own, would you slap a slice of brown bread on a plate?

Report Aunty Post December 21, 2016 6:41 PM GMT
saddo, too right!

I have to think really hard, to recall a dining experience that was better than mediocre!

I wasn't expecting anything other than acceptable today, but I guess that if the servers are, presumably
local, that will be ok for them at home!
Report cardifffc December 21, 2016 6:45 PM GMT
agree with saddo......overpriced

Well, only yourself to blame.

Should have invited family round for a bbq.
I know it's a bit cold, but go inside when the sun goes down.

Frankie & Benny sounds like a dodgy X Factor duo

£10, and they want another 2 quid for a cup of tea ffs.
Report Aunty Post December 23, 2016 10:56 AM GMT
Don't know how they got ours to over £14.00!

Gem's "Breakfast" was £5.95 and looked like a starter! Side of Heinz beans, £1.45 for half a tin....

My mushrooms were £2.50 and would have been good if they upped the quantity a little...

A glass of Cola for me and water for Gem and that was it....

Just glad that the little guy wanted to sleep, thereby not having dessert and coffee.

Admittedly I didn't check the bill, where they probably charged £2.00 for one slice of bread!
Report saddo December 23, 2016 11:01 AM GMT
No cooked breakfast is complete without tea/toast and a cuppa, trade descriptions should get after these thieves.

Knew someone who worked at one and was told they dont empty the dishwasher even when water is black

All foreigners in a rush to get home and use same water for weeks
Report Aunty Post December 23, 2016 1:14 PM GMT
Yes cooperman....

Gem had two poached eggs on crushed avocado on a toasted whatever bread for £5.95 also.

I mean, for Christ's sake, we were not expecting Michelin Stars, but it would hardly hurt them to be a bit more generous, and then people would come back!

As it is they now have two who won't be back!

They are made up people Frankie and Benny do you know this

There is a fake story about them starting out
Report TheChaser December 23, 2016 2:01 PM GMT
the fictional story about the restaurant's origins is presented. The story is that in 1924, at the age of 10, Frankie left Sicily with his parents and moved to “Little Italy” in New York City. Within a year of moving, the family had opened a restaurant, everybody helping with the building and the cooking in equal measure. Frankie went to the nearby high school and became lifetime friends with Benny, already a third-generation American. The business was taken over by Frankie and Benny in 1953, and combines popular American food with traditional Italian dishes.[citation needed]

Were they friends on Ben & Jerry,
Who met while at school in Germany and moved to New York shortly after the end of WW2.

Gerry changed his name to Jerry and started making ice cream the old fashioned German way.

And the rest is geography ... err history

a lot of tight bastards in here ffs, dont go to a restaurant if you want food for peanuts!

We have great ability in this country of changing dishes to the point of ruining them. When going on holiday abroad it is a rarity to get a meal that isn't up to expectations, whereas in England it becomes the norm. There is a determination to ruin every dish, and cheapen it in order to increase profit margin, accompanied by a cheerful young minimum wage waitress, waiter, asking "is everything ok,did you enjoy your meal?"Probably totally unaware of the garbage they delivered to the tables.
Also,as said on this thread,portions are often a joke.It is often worth saying"I didn't order a child's portion!"
Anglicising dishes is a recipe for rubbish, bin fodder, garbage, but it happens all over the show.So you have to ask yourself what is the point of Masterchef. Is it only for exclusive places. It's like Harrods or Primark!!
