Only if you drink less than 12 hours Ron

You will get withdrawal symptoms

Hush up chaps, you're ruining my power hour. Going for gold here and trying for 16.

My only downside to the drinking is that I'm getting a chubby fecker and that combined with my laziness makes it a real chore to wipe me arse.
Soon I'll have to going at it from the front and I have no clue as to how my balls are going to take to the idea Scared

Have a couple of days a week off and don't drink.

If you can't do that, seek proper advice.
Report Charlie December 18, 2016 3:20 PM GMT
Huge daily and weekly intake of alcohol for last fifty years or so. Managed to excel myself in last 18 months or so since I retired. I drink all day every day. I've always been quite slim but now have a pronounced, in fact a relatively huge beer belly, which everyone I meet comments on. Last day without alcohol was probably over ten years ago.

Yesterday about two in the afternoon suddenly got this intense pain in the kidney/liver area and about half-an-hour later started vomiting. Vomiting just made pain worse. Tried a couple of paracetamol but these came straight back up, couldn't drink anything not even water. Tried going to bed but pain was just as bad, tried standing, sitting but nothing helped. About 8 in the evening decided to go to A&E then thought better of it as being Saturday night I thought it would be full of drunks(!). Half-an-hour later pain miraculously disappeared and was able to eat and drink without vomiting.

Went to bed about 10 and slept well until about 3:30 when woke up with same bloody pain and immediately started vomiting again. Stuck it out until about seven and decided to go to A&E which luckily is only about a 10 minute walk.

Place was deserted. Checked in, saw a nurse within two minutes who took blood pressure (177/78), temperature, etc and then straight into one of the nursing rooms. Another nurse came straight away, took blood pressure (144/78) blood for testing, urine for testing and put me on a saline drip. Saw a doctor after about half-an-hour and had x-rays almost immediately.

Trollied back to room and nodded off for about an hour. Nurse again took blood pressure (126/77). Soon got results from doctor. Blood tests ok but some blood in urine, nothing untoward on x-rays. Doctor put everything down to dehydration and advised drinking 8 pints of water a day. She did also add that if it happened again to phone for an ambulance (which I found odd). Prescription for co-codomol and that was it.

Absolutely brilliant service and shows the NHS isn't finished by a long way.

How old are you Ron?

sounds like acute pancreatitis charlie, but if the bloodwork was ok, then maybe not.

Earlier this year the max recommended units for a man was reduced from 21 to 14.

So I went from being Ok to drinking an unhealthy amount overnight.

Thanks Foinavon.
One of the reasons for the xrays was to determine that. No sign of stone.

Started reading that report but it's heavy going. Most of it doesn't seem to relate to really heavy drinking but I'll continue reading it. I'm under no illusion that drinking isn't bad for me. As an ex 40 a day man (went electronic three years ago) I always thought it would be one or the other (or a combination) that got me.

You need a month off to let your liver recover if it hasn't gone too far.

Heavy drinkers are more susceptible to gout and diabetes amongst other things.

It didn't stop him from having a stroke.

You've obviously got issues, you need to ask yourself why you are drinking so much

That's a very fair point which I haven't got an honest answer to. One thing that heavy drinking does (or at least I find it does) is that you can make promises to yourself about what you will do tomorrow or whenever but you never keep them.

Report bodil December 19, 2016 12:06 AM GMT
Yes, it is a problem - you will eventually die horribly and slowly.  But, if you have no particular reason to live, why not?

This is a bad time of year. Decreasing daylight, the manic horror of Xmas, dampness and decay. But fix your gaze on the not-so-distant glory of the Cheltenham Festival - that's something to live for every year.

was a fella somewhere up North................

He died a couple of years ago, heart attack caused by blocked arteries

who could have predicted that??
Report stewarty b December 19, 2016 11:40 AM GMT
Ron, I think the big question here is do you actually want to go teetotal? If the answer is yes I would advise to cut down gradually.

I can sometimes drink far too much when betting largish. I'ts like a crutch when the stalls open or the tapes go up.

I know that's a pitiful excuse but since giving up smoking fifteen years ago I needed something to take the edge off of things.

If you are in any doubt you always have your GP to fall back on.
