Met him 6 years ago at a mutual friends funeral, he took a train on a snowy December day from Devon to Norwich to get there just to say a few words. A really nice bloke!

Pity they didn't keep the Tinker character the same as he was in Jonathan Gash's original novels. There he's an alky who sleeps in bus shelters and has no trouble getting served in a crowded bar on account of his disgusting pong.

True enough screaming. And Lovejoy hit women and killed the odd person. I recently read some of the (much later) later Lovejoy stories - got the impression Gash was increasingly a fellow lover of the fruits of the vine/grain. Still, must be nice to be rich enough not to care.

The books are great but so is the show. Sad to hear Tinker has died. Surprised he was only 83. He looked close to that 25 years ago!
