i have workmen next door renovating but every morning there  was drills and jackhammers and the likes starting off from 7am. now hat phase seems to be over there working inside but blasting out music again from 7ish which wakes my family and myself up. i have ask politely and not so politely for them to stop but am being ignored.the construction company have there adboard outside and i have found the address of the owner/builder. so is it legal to remind him at his home at say 4 or 5 in the early hours to quieten it down or illlegal?

Thought it was down to Local Council laws concerning noise, music, e.t.c.
The use of heavy machinery is permitted between the hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday. Outside of these hours its use is considered a nuisance.

Breedingmad's advice is sound.    I would first check your Local Authority Planning Portal as if the works are extensive there will have been a planning application.  If so, there is likely to be a condition (in the Planning Consent) limiting the hours of work to certain hours which will be along the lines of that suggested by B. If this condition is being breached you can also contact your local Planning Enforcement Team

Even if there is no such condition, the normal laws of nuisance apply and as B says, your recourse is to your council's EPT - they will be used to dealing with builders music!!, as well as other anti-social behaviour.

slightly different laws in ireland guys seams you can built an extension with out planning.i tried the council re the noise but apart from a incedent number no contact from them.my thinking is just to give a taste of whats going on his doorstep by complaining at the ungodly hours when hes bound to be asleep.police as useless as they just say its a civil matter.

So the Irish all moan just like the new UK craze where everyone has something to moan about

Go round and stick one right on the head of the noisey neighbour or hide away and look like a sap
