Happy Birthday to him.

His best film Spartacus without doubt. But lots of other great ones: Paths of Glory and Seven Days in May standing out for me.

the Arrangement (1969) was excellent. Plays an advertizing exec. better than madmen. About a guy that can't live with the lies he's created, living in a lie.
"
When Kirk Douglas spearheaded the first attempt to bring One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest to life on the big screen in the 1960s, he had intended to play the Randle Patrick McMurphy role himself, just as he had on stage. When production began in earnest 10 years later, Douglas was too old for the part, leaving director Forman to consider and contact the likes of Gene Hackman, Marlon Brando, and (his personal favorite) Burt Reynolds before finally settling on Jack Nicholson.

Douglas never seemed to get over this, he even did a tv movie that was a shadow of it.

Bette Davis did the same thing with Gone with the wind. Jezebel.

Great to see him still going! A real movie star with much more charisma than the over-blown nonentities of today!

That trademark dimple on the chin has sure seen plenty.
In his time political correctness was wearing a tie with a 3 button suit.
Pity the likes of 'that' crew have finished.

His wife is 97 and they have been married for 62 years, pretty amazing for any marriage to last that long, especially in Hollywood where not many make it past the 10-year mark !

3 of my fav Kirk Douglas films, The Vikings, Spartacus and Lonely Are The Brave (he said that was his favourite film)

BBC2 1.30 this afternoon - Lust for Life - Superb - Should have got a Oscar for it, if you believe in them sort of things.

Agreed, well done to the both.
