Why do people generally give to charity ?

If you can't afford to give a couple of quid to a charity you like you should take a long hard look at your life decisions imo

Because "virtue" has an economic and political value. That's why there are so many "ethical" adverts on the tv these days...companies desperate to cash-in on "right on" values.

You keep hearing the phrase "virtue signalling", so all of this so called "good" has been factored into advanced Capitalism. People must be thinking, "I'm a good person - I give to charity."

Giving is usually far easier than doing....many who give are salving their conscience by paying others to do.

I know of several of these popular charities booking their Christmas parties at Marriott hotels under bogus names... Which is the major reason I distrust All charities.

look at what the directors of charities are paid at the top...

all three I suppose, I've always given to the British Legion right from when I was at school, my Grandma's favourite was the Salvation Army and I've always donated to those since she passed away.

I think many just give to feel good themselves. Whether the charity they give to does more harm than good is not very important, and not something they investigate or think about.

Personal issues come into being too. A lot of people I've known throughout the years have started contributing to charities that affect them or their families directly
