I don't think the country has the stomach for another long drawn out referendum but it should be debated at least

Sir John Major has declared there is a “perfectly credible” case for a second referendum on Brexit and people who voted to remain should not be subject to the “tyranny of the majority”.

The former prime minister said the views of Remain voters should be heard in the debate about how Britain will leave the European Union.

The ex-Conservative leader told guests at a private dinner that the 48% of people who voted to stay in the European Union should have their say on the terms of the deal for breaking away from Brussels.

Major said he accepted the UK would not remain a full member of the EU but hoped the Brexit deal would enable the country to stay as close as possible to the other 27 members and the single market, the Times reported.

Parliament, not the government, should make the final decision on any new deal with the remaining members of the EU and there was a “perfectly credible case” for a second referendum.

Tony Blair: Brexit could be stopped if Britons change their minds

“I hear the argument that the 48% of people who voted to stay should have no say in what happens,” he said.

“I find that very difficult to accept. The tyranny of the majority has never applied in a democracy and it should not apply in this particular democracy.”

Major, in a speech and Q&A to mark the 100th anniversary of David Lloyd George becoming prime minister, hailed the single market as “the richest market mankind has ever seen” in his first intervention in the Brexit debate since the 23 June vote.

The former prime minister’s time in No 10 was marked by a series of bruising battles with his own MPs over Europe and his comments are likely to cause fresh anger among Eurosceptic Tories.

His comments come after his successor in Downing Street, Tony Blair, suggested the Brexit process could be halted.

The former Labour leader told the New Statesman: “It can be stopped if the British people decide that, having seen what it means, the pain gain cost-benefit analysis doesn’t stack up.”

Where is he living Narnia????????????

This is all flim flam, people were asked if they wanted to either stay in or leave the EU, that is it.

People voted to leave.

However if a second vote was somehow wangled, I suspect people may vote to remain.

Anyway it is neither anything to do with Major or Blair, it is in the province of May.

There would be no point in having another referendum, unless the EU offer some sort of compromise deal?

Then another Referendum could be acceptable.

Who is paying Bliar and Major?

Why did'nt they pay them to make these points
before the first vote that they expected would
go their way?

I suspect if there was a second vote, there would be an explosion of hate crimes (real, stabby-type hate crime not pretend 'looking at me in a funny way ones) from a public that's through with democracy.

This would be wrong but entirely understandable and the Remain types like Major and Blair would only have themselves to blame.

When there is a vote that doesn't go my way I am going to stamp and scweam and shout and shout and scweam and stamp boo  hoo!!!

Meanwhile, how many people have been hurt in these hate crimes in the US and UK. It is truly disgusting.  I am looking forward to the arrest and prosecution of all these scum.

How is Monisha's case coming along??  Calls for assassination are not hate crimes then?

You wouldn't need to campaign as everyone knows if we leave the single market we will be
fooked for years. We just need to be realistic about what has happened it's not difficult.

This is Blair's way of re-establishing himself as a big player. Farron is an absolute nobody, Corbyn can't even form a shadow cabinet, and there is 48% of the people who need a figurehead. There is also the enticing prospect of EU adulation if he can keep us under its yoke.

His self-regard is astonishing. He clearly just ignores the fact that he is reviled not only by the country at large, but especially by the party that has wrenched its soul out of the clutches of his acolytes.

Again, I feel that the intervention of this war criminal will backfire on the Remain campaign by losing them some supporters, and by hardening the resolve of the Leavers. It will also further divide an already divided Nation. Blair should hold his tongue, and wait for the Hague to catch up with him.

Tony is considered a Saint in Ireland for his extraordinary efforts in the Peace process.

We would warmly welcome Tony and the delectable Cherie to come and live in Ireland.

And good luck to him making a few quid from speeches. Making up for all those years chronically under-paid years at no. 10.

And of course he is right about Brexit...we need to see what it actually means first...then we can have a meaningful referendum.

Merkel has reiterated today, the only way this country is going to get access to the single market, is if we accept immigration.

Nothing else is on the table.

If we had another referendum????????? to vote whether we wanted soft or hard Brexit, in fact there is no soft Brexit on offer

so we would be voting to stay in the EU.

It is hard Brexit or nothing.

The leaders of both our main parties fear the consequence of leaving the EU.

The only person to blame for this is Cameron, for allowing people to vote in something that could harm this country.

He did this just to get himself in power. As leader of this country he was supposed to govern in the best interests of this country.

He put his own need for power before that.

It could be Farage is right, and we are better off out the EU, but we are going to take a financial hit. The long term benefit

is not so many immigrants.

That is what people voted for in the Referendum.
Report ebulGery • November 25, 2016 1:46 PM GMT
Another reason for why some people voted, was they did not like us being controlled by the EU.

We have already had such a referendum. We voted out.Project fear told us all again and again and again that a vote to leave was a vote to leave the single market. Cleggy, Gideon and cuddles Dave all said it on many ocassions and we voted OUT.

Mind you the reason most under 25's voted to stay in was that
they were worried that mobile phones charges would be higher
if they voted for out.

The EU and their acolytes have form, if they don't like the answer they'll ask again until they get the right one.

This has been pointed out many times before.
