I have seen Guy Martin racing, after he broke his leg once he was determined to get back as soon as possible.  His Englidh doctor wouldn't give him the certificate to race saying it wasn't properly healed.
So he went to try in ireland
Doctor told him to stand on a table and jump off landing on his damaged leg. He did this and was passed fit to race in Ireland.

I've noticed that with southerners they are quick to cry, lack in resilience and easily give up when the pain kicks in.
